SENIOR NEWS To begin the year with a bang the seniors initiated the freshmen. Each freshman student was dressed like a character in the comic strips. On the evening of September 1 l, the entire high school enjoyed entertainment provided by the freshmen and directed by the seniors, climaxed by a watermelon feast. . Of course, everyone has to have officers to carry on any kind of business so those elected for the senior class of 1947 and 1948 were as follows: President ------------------ Lyla Wiese ViCe-President ---- -------- Jim Swanson Secretary -------- - -- Carmen Blackwell Treasurer ---- ----------- -- Duane Smith On October 15, the class enjoyed a much looked-forward-to picnic which was planned very carefully but didn't go exactly according to play. Nevertheless, it was fun! Then came the day the class was released from school to sell ads fOr the annual. The class was divided into two groups and each group was to cover specified towns in the vicinity of Irwin. December 17 was a day which will never be forgotten by many of the class. That was the time when they went to Des Moines to visit' the state capitol and set in on a special session of congress. On January 9, the class had their pictures taken. A few days later the study hall was buzzing with voices as the seniors passed their proofs around or everyone to see. And, of course, they have to have a play, too, so many play books were mixed in with the school books while the class was deciding to present Peck's Bad Boy . When this article was written, the cast had not yet been chosen. For the class gift the seniors debated for several days on getting a movie projector. As this is quite a costly gift, they asked the junior class if they would like to pay half and the machine be a gift from the two classes. The juniors agreed and the machine was purchased, and used a great deal during the second semester. The elevator to success is broken, take a ladder??, was the motto of the class: American beauty rose, the flower: and American beauty rose and gray, the colors. The members of the class as a whole are looking forward to the Junior-Senior banquet to be held in their honor by the junior class.
