.f SECOND: S. Holloman, P. Jones, D. Gram lich, K. Johnson. FIRST: W. Gardner, S. Hayes, D. Koury, H. Hawk. SECOND: W. Lomicka, F. Montrose, R Leonard. FIRST: B. Leffler, B. Monstrola, E. Lohr F. Kuhn, K. Lomicka, M. Ogun. THEY ARE OFF TO A GOOD START Having ended a very enjoyable school term and hoping for one as successful next year, the ambitious seventh grade, guided by the experienced hand of Miss Wiley, is proud of its many accomplishments. The class chose as leaders David Koury as presi- dent and Jerry Sandson vice-president. Keep- ing the books were Secretary Kay Daniels and Treasurer Kay Johnson. Ranking high in scholastic standings were Jerry Sandson, Bill Lomicka, and Ei- leen Lohr. Exceptionally good in math were the popular David Koury and David Gram- lich. Though a little awkward and especially shy of the sewing machines, this class showed its ability in home economics through the fine work of Dolores Blystone and Eileen Lohr. Mrs. Stauffer has been pleased to find that Eugene Shorthouse and Lloyd Simpson demonstrated artistic talent. Adding greatly to the success of the junior high squad was Lloyd Simpson who showed good form and will probably be varsity material in his high school days. Ad- ding zest to the cheering section, Sonny,' Koury, an ardent supporter of the team, helped with loud and hearty yells. Darlene Cloherty showed special talent in tap-dancing by winning the amateur con- test sponsored by the Lions Club. Ken and Bill Lomicka and Eileen Lohr all play clari- nets in the Irwin High Band. Everyone likes to hear the fine singing of Eugene Shorthouse and Jerry Sandson. An oddity of the class is the repetition of the name Kay. Three of the thirteen girls have this name, Kay Davis, Kay Daniels, and Kaye Johnson. Few of the pupils will ever forget when Francis Caserio, the livliest boy in the class, let a praying mantis loose in the room to the terror of all the girls. Nor will they forget when Jerry Sandson was caught singing the Star Spangled Ban- ner in front of the room when he was sup- posed to be conducting class while the teacher was out. Miss Cason was heard to say that they were extremely proud of what they made even if it might be only an apron. Joe Mc- Munn, their math teacher, said that in gen- eral they were an outstanding class. Very active and industrious was a comment of Mr. Balog. This class has set a high standard which all future junior high classes can strive to maintain. 29

BULLETQN some wok -Hctivitia gtoufcf out pay In our small school it is possible to pre- dict the future interest of IrWin's future citizens. Some people say Activities play too great a part in the program of the pres- ent day school. But by nature we are all gregarious and society loving and it is our school organizations which provide outlets for these wholesome characteristics. The val- ue of proper leadership, cooperation, and of mixing fun with work are a few things taught by our clubs and societies which are not as easily learned in the formal classroom. Irwin is a town of joiners. We have more local organizations than the average community our size. It is these organizations which strengthen the bands of unity and co- operation in the town. Irwin's numerous ser- vice clubs, the Toastmaster's club, the Little Theater, the Male Chorus, all look to the school to provide their future members. For every student activity there can be found a corresponding activity in our local adult Worldg
