MCN- ULTY was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with combat V for outstanding seaman- sliip and daring against the Japanese at Okinawa. COMMANDER MCNULTY was born in Spokane, Washington and now re- sides in Garden Grove, California.

The gallant ship and her crew saw action in the Marshall ' s, Mariana ' s, Okinawa and Phi- llipines, where it was severely damaged. On I)-I)a she was on the job at Iwo Jima, from whence she retired until recommissioning in February lit ' )!. After spending two years in the Atlantic fleet she reported for duty after the outbreak of hostilities in Korea. Carrying her load of duties bravely she fou- ght bravely with Task Force 77 and was wounded again when a North Korean shell hit her mast. F ' rom Korea she returned to service in the Atlantic, being transferred back to the Paci- fic in ia ' )(!. At present the IRWIN is con tinning to do the jobs assigned her, a proud ship for all the world to see, hear and re- member.
