Text from Pages 1 - 152 of the 1958 volume:

Ml the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players; they have their exits and their entrances, and one man in his time plays many parts... All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players: They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts, His acts being seven ages. At first the infant, Mewling and puking in the nurse's arms. Then the whining school-boy, with satchel And shining morning face, creeping like snail Unwilling to school. And then the lover, Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad Made to his mistress’ eyebrow. Then a soldier, Full of strange oaths, and bearded like the pard, Jealous in honour, sudden and quick in quarrel. Seeking the bubble reputation Even in the cannon's mouth. And then the justice. In fair round belly with good capon lined, With eyes severe and beard of formal cut. Full of wise saws and modern instances; And so he plays his part. The sixth stage shifts Into the lean and slipper'd pantaloon. With spectacles on nose and pouch on side, His youthful hose, well saved, a world too wide For his shrunk shank; and his big manly voice, Turning again toward childish treble, pipes And whistles in his sound. Last scene of all. That ends this strange eventful history, Is second childishness and mere oblivion, Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans every thing. As You Like It Act II, vii Zhe 1958 Chieftain All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players . , said Shakespeare and so say we. In the 1958 Chieftain we present the stage of Irwin County High School. This book represents the drama of life . . . we introduce our actors, some taking leading roles and some taking supporting roles. Each one making this year both meaningful and memorable. It is the desire of the 1958 Chieftain staff that this book shall be a true-to- life drama of the students, administration, clubs, and athletics as seenupon the stage of I.C.H.S. 95$Chieftain T e d i c a t I 0 n as teen-age club organizer and director as coBention chaperone a friend Jf, as Shakespeare said, all the world is a stage, this one has successfully played her role at Irwin County High School ... she has, in our school, church, and community, exempli- fied high ideals and created within us the impor- tant desire of living a better life . . . she has many outstanding qualities and has put them to use while here . . . she has joined cooperatively with the students in supporting all school activ- ities . . . because of her reverence for life, love of fine literature, and appreciation of the beau- tiful . . . because of her understanding and re- specting the individual. . . because she has been an excellent teacher, a trusting friend, and a worthy example, We, the 1958 Chieftain Staff, with love and appreciation, proudly dedicate this annual to . . .
