They also attended many pre-sea- son track events and did very well. Although the team was rather small in size, they still had an outstanding year. Michelle Akers led the girls in Cross Country run- ning competition. She placed second in the Mission Valley Athletic League finals and advanced to the North Coast Section 4-A championship meet. Stacy Bolivia placed fifth in the MVAL finals and also advanced to the NCS-4-A championship meet. Kathy Tilton also did well in the MVAL finals by placing ninth. GIRLS V RSITY SUCCER The Irvington Viking Girls Soccer Team got off to a good start by capturing the championship of the first round of play. Top players include Kerry Richards and Angela Rendon on offense and Pam Manriquez, Mi- chelle Mayo, and Denise Hernandez on defense. According to Coach Shirley Evans this was the finest team she has ever had! The girls were skilled, and worked well together. She felt the team was balanced offensively and defensively. Mrs. Evans also stated that she was pleasantly surprised with the performance of So- nia Juarez who has done an excellent job at halfback and Lynette Hernandez who is at goalie for her first time and has done a superb job.
