Symphonic Band is com- prised of advanced band students. While 'under the baton of Mr. Wayne Ed- wards, this group is likely to perform a classical symphonic arrangement. With this Symphonic Band, versatility is the word. Students in this band must be prepared to play any of the many musical styles. Songs in the jazz idiom and from popular musicals and movies are often favorites of this musical group. Band Council is a group within the Symphonic Band that consists of re- presentatives from the various sections of the band. Students are elect- leadership ed for their qualities. The purpose of this group is the complex to resolve problems and demands of an ever- changing and varying per- forming unit. Paramount among the various re- sponsibilities of this deci- sion-making group is the organization of a success- ful band trip. This year the band went to Disneyland for a chance to recover from their very demand- ing schedule of perfor- mances. Stage Band is made up of an elite group of musicians who have shown an interest in jazz and its various idioms. Stage Band is the most active performer of the bands. Among their many performances the most important were the Stage Band Thor Throat show and the Christmas shows. In addition to performing as a jazz ensemble the Stage Band amends itself in the spring and be- comes the Pit Orchestra for the annual musical. The Pep Band is a bunch of zany madcaps whose sole interest is having a rollicking good time. This year's award-winning Pep Band is cherished by the school as a major source of school spirit at athletic events such as football games and chess match- es. At this time, the Pep Band would like to thank the entire student body, and especially the spirit leaders, whose enthusias- tic support made this year's Pep Band an over- whelming success. This year's all-star line-up was headed by director-com- poser Fred Landers. 115
