Gymnastics has four levels of competition. The four levels are: Novice, for those who have never competed: Begin- ner, for those gymnasts who have competed: Intermediate, for those gymnasts who quali- fied for NCS at beginning level, and Advanced, very skilled gymnasts. This years team captains were Chris Farnum and co-captain, Angel Rodriguez. There were three meets host- ed by lrvington. They were: March 7 against Washington, April 2 against Logan and April 29 against Mission San Jose. The team spirit is good and the girls work well together, according to Coach Marian Spooner. This year Irvington had a bunch of fine talented girls on it's Girls Tennis Team. The coach for the team was Miss Hammes, who was one heck of a coach. The team captain was Laura Gouldthrope, who has played tennis for Irvington for four years. Awards were distributed at the Awards Banquet. They were: Most Improved, which was awarded to Debbie Stelleg Most Dedicated, which was awarded to Arends Hughes, and Most Valuable, which was awarded to Shellie Marshall. The number one single was Arenda Hughes, number two Beth Brooks, number three Shellie Marshall, and number four Laura Gouldthrope and Margarete Young. The number one doubles were Margarete Young, Teresa Parra, Tammy Silva, and Cathy La- chenmyer.
