Varsity Football This years Viking football team had a rugged schedule. Six of the ten teams they played throughout the season finished among the top ten inthe East Bay. Coached by Mr. Gary Miller for the ninth year, he felt the entire team gave its best effort every game. He also commented that the Vikings were small in size and plagued by many injuries, including that of starting quarterback Bob Brown which Miller feels hurt the team early in the season. Miller singled out as the seasons key players, Denny Martinez, Dennis Cramer, Josh Hendrix and Mike Schanen. The 1980 Girls Gymnastics team was small in number but mighty in spirit. Mrs. Mariann Spooner coached the team and Amber Dean was chosen as the team Captain. ln De- cember, the girls held their first annual Cartwheel-A-Thon to raise money for a new set of uneven parallel bars and a new vaulting board. The group achieved the goal and the new equipment has served them well. When asked what they gained from going out for the team, a variety of responses were re- cieved. They all felt it helped to develop self-confidence and team spirit. They stated that Gymnastics also offered the challenge and experience of competition.
