A creature without memories cannot discover the past ... One without expectations can¬ not conceive a future ' Santayana Seniors of 1978 will have memories of senior activities, in¬ volvement in clubs and athletics, and of other personal experi¬ ences with teachers and friends. Some of you will remember that this was the year of the long drought, that we had our first teachers ' strike, and that leaders in the Middle East made progress towards peace. Not many will realize that this is one of the first classes of almost complete integration of boys and girls into all areas of curricu¬ lum, including a complete equal sports program. How many will realize that this is to be one of the last classes that will be al¬ lowed to graduate without first having to pass final competing exams in reading, writing and mathematics. You, the class of 1978, are at the end and beginning of chang¬ ing eras. You have witnessed and been subjected to the pres¬ sures and demands of our dem¬ ocratic society and you have seen the effects that this has made on our schools. We, as eduators, feel we have prepared you for additional challenges and have given you the ability to make demands of your own. We urge you to develop high expectations of yourselves, your institutions and your society. Don Cercich Principal 104
