The Vikins Varsity swim team has suffered heavy per¬ sonal losses between the 1 976 and 1 977 season. The squad is large but composed primarily of untested newcomers and underclassmen. After several years as the league titlests or contenders in the M.V.A.L., the team slipped to a middle of the pack finish.

Head Mary Giovannoni, Val Collins, Kathy Domire, Robin Coach Bob Buum, Tricia Merck, Susan Schall, Kim Elle- Acosta, good, Kris Matzek, Karen Craig, Assistant Coach Gene This year’s Irvington Track Team had a lot of athletes from the Soph B Champs from the year before. Some Varsity Lettermen had also returned for another year. There were many out¬ standing individuals such as Dave Debus in Discus and Steve Bli- zel in the High Jump. Other Top contenders were Rick M oraida, Marty Ryan and Clyde Wixom in Long Distance. Doug Jones, Greg Wellman, Eric Miskowski and Mitch Heinze in the Hurdle events, Jerry Collins in the Long and Triple Jumps, Jose Nieves in the Sprints, and Doug Handel and Carlos Servantes in the Pole Vault. There was also Dave Hague, who could excel in any event. The girls had very few competitiors, but what they had were quality. Tricia Merck and Sandy McComas were impressive Hur¬ dlers. Mary Giovannoni and Val Collins, as Freshmen, were our outstanding Sprinters. There was also Kathy Domire and Kim El- legood as our Shot and Discus throwers. Karen Craig and Meg Gusmeri did a good job in the short and middle distances. 109
