♦ J a r t t t t s Judi Haff Marching forty-eight strong, the Viking Band looked quite impressive in their brand new uniforms. Led by drum major Roy Benge, and directed by Richard M. Levin, the marching band per¬ formed at all the home football games. With its corps of five major¬ ettes led by head majorette Judy Haff, the Viking Band added color and excitement to the Football season. After performing at Christmas in several community loca¬ tions the Viking Marching Band was transformed into the Viking Concert Band. With the beginning of the second semester the band turned to the preparation of serious concert music. Included in its busy schedule were elementary school concerts, the Spring Concert, and the California Music Educators Association annual festival. The band also participated in the Los Banos Parade, which, in California, is the second in size only to the Tournament of Roses Parade. At the year’s end with the musicians preparing music for graduation exercises, plans were already being made for next year. These included the selection of drum major, student director, and head majorette. With a year of Viking Band experience behind them plus the fact that the band is losing only six seniors at grad¬ uation, the band members are eagerly awaiting the opening of school next fall. VALKYRIES The Valkyries, headed by Cindy Fratres and Mary Goetsch, have served as a tre¬ mendous help to our Rooting Sections at the basketball and football games.
