De- spite many injuries the Tigers managed to main- tain a good record. The co-captains for the year were seniors Donald Shelby and Richard Stearns: both men spurred the Tigers on, proving again, that even in defeat there is honor. The team has al- ways been composed of the most capable athletes, who, after extensive practice, joined the Av squad. Many of our A team play- ers each year have been seniors. Practicing diligently to replace these graduating seniors was the HB, team. This group has gained ex- perience by longhours of practice and corn- petitive play, and will form the AH team of tomorrow. The squad was sparked by the team captains who were elected by the players according to their ath- letic abilities and leadership qualities. ' Team, Under the supervision of Miss Peggy Hughes, the lrving High School Tigerettes racked up an interesting record during the 1954--55 season. The team, sparked by their captains, La Quita Carlisle and Io Kee, displayed an enthusiastic demonstration of athletic ability and interest. Another team of which we were proud was the BH team. These girls, under the student direction of the captains, Virginia Brewton and Patsy Ramsey, practiced hard and racked up a good record in their competitive play. Showing much versatility in batting, fielding, and run- ning, the Tigers had a very stimulating season. Under the expert coaching of Gene Hodge, the team displayed the fine sportsmanship and athletic ability which is tra- ditional at IHS. The fine cooperation among the players is an attribute to the team sports at Irving High. There has never been an overabundance of student support of our baseball team in the past. Majorettes Possibly the most color- ful group during the foot- ball season was the Band Majorettes. The major- ettes, Sandra Reed, fhead- majorettej , Billye Wigley, Nancy Rily, and Barbara Lee, added to the spectac- ular performances of the band with their twirling, prancing and dancing. Drum Major The effectiveness of a high school band's man- euvers on the football field depends largely up- on the Drum Major's capability. Winston Forrest, a sen- ior, has shown much tal- ent in fulfilling his posi- tion as Drum Major of the IHS Band during 1953-55. HAL GIBSON Director The intriguingly intricate maneuvers of the IHS Tiger Band entertained the crowds at half-time during the football season. The band proved its serious musicianship during the concert season. The band, directed by Hal J. Gibson, successfully completed another well- rounded year-parades, football games, the Varsity Reviewf' and concerts. The band officers, military type, are Sandra Turner, Gayle Brown, Judy Winn, Andy Edmonson, Sandra Reed, and Winston Forrest. A Cappella Choir The IHS A Cappella Choir, di- rected by Miss Mary Lee Franklin, com- pleted another successful year of con- certs and programs. ' Being a select group of forty-four young musicians, the choir was one of the finest musical organizations at Irv- ing High. Future Farmers of America The Future Farmers of America is a na- tional organization comprised of boys inter- ested in agriculture. The club not only trained its members in different phases of farm work, but also put their training into practice by raising farm projects. For the first time in IHS history a sophomore student competed in the finals for Student Council President.
