School History Because this is the last Comet to be put out by Irrigon High School, the annual staff thought it would be appropriate to include a short history of Irrigon Schools. The first school district was created in 1904, at which time a private school was being run under the direction of Miss Swaih. This school was in the 2-story house next to the Complete Food Store. In 1905 a new brick school was constructed on the north side of what is now the football field. This building was used for Grange, P.T.A., Church, Dances, and school for all 12 grades. In 1920 the building that now houses High School and Eighth Grade was erected. The gymnasium was added several years later by members of the community and was used for all kinds of gatherings. In 1952 Irrigon added a new grade school. It was named after A. C. Houghton and now holds the first 7 grades. School Song Here's to the fame of old Irrigon High- Now and forever don't let her die!
