Iroquols Hlgh School Volume XIX 5 . . f FN '16 ' 3 3 ,-. 'J' O' ' go W aw - . N 6 ' ks ,QQ .amid Behind the splendor of our yearbook lies the creative and artistic talents of a very special person. Over the past five years, he has been the yearbook advisor and dedicated a tremendous amount of time and effort to the Bravero. He has done a superb job, often without the aid of a large yearbook staff. During these years, he has given us a gift which is irreplaceable, five years of high school memories saved for us between the covers. He has worked in the Iroquois School District for the past twenty years teaching art and interior design. During these years he has been very active in many school activities, including Junior class and yearbook advisor. He is always willing to extend his talents and do jobs many other would not attempt. His funny and witty personality can brighten anyone's day. While we have known him, he has become more than a teacher. He has become a true friend and one we will never forget. This small token of our gratitude can not fully express how we feel about him and his accomplishments. Our applause. though inaudible is nonetheless sincere - therefore, we the Senior Class of 1985 feel it is our privilege to dedicate this yearbook, with great pride, to the individual who deserves it most - MR. And in these clouds I see a face An outline sketch that won't erase The clouds are peaceful in this form Until nature has a storm. The impression that is in my mind Will tell me that the world's not kind But when nature has had her fill Of raindrop tears and lonely chills A rainbow will form in that place Where I had seen the familiar face. But memories last, so long as I Seek them as the clouds go by. These will also be stored in your attic full of memories. ln the political world we saw the re-election of Ronald Reagan. Walter Mondale chose Geraldine Ferraro as his running mate. She was the first woman ever to run for the position of Vice-President of the United States. England's Royal couple pro- duced another heir. ln the religious world, the Pope visited even the remotest corners of the world. ln the entertainment world, we saw the rebirth of the Jacksons Robert Duval received an Oscar for his performance in Tender Mer- cies and Shirley MacLaine earned one for her acting in Terms of Endearmentf' We saw the first black Miss America. Our own Lady Liberty got a face life and NASA unveiled its new line of cordless lazyboys. Aids spend long dedicated hours using their special skills in videotaping sport- ing events, segments of the W.I.H.S. News Broadcast and assisting Mrs. Catherine in pro- gramming for classroom use. Under the direction of Mr. Dennis Luce. the crew helps to add a little variety to our sometimes monotonous school routines. Members are: T. White, A. Burick. A. Burick, R. Anthony, K. Hart, J. Benson. J. Johnson, L. Klopfer, J. McCurdy. Stage Crew The success of productions on the Iroquois stage is dependent on a dedicated crew of students. These energetic people are busy behind the scenes moving props, designing backdrops, directing lighting and opening and closing the curtain at just the right mo- ment. While the actors and other performers are presenting the show we often overlook the before performance work the crew has done to assure a perfect show. The Iroquois Stage Crew is supervised by Mr. Charles McKay. Members are: D. An- thony, J. Casper, G. Misfud, R. Shorts, D. MacDonald, G. Hard- ner, A. Mauthe, M. Greene, D. Taylor, P. Stefano, K. Haltener, T. Onest, J. Place. Smoke Signal Under the new direction of Mrs. lobst and editor Doug Peck, the Smoke Signal staff has composed a newspaper containing topics ranging from sports and academics to con- troversial subjects and enter- taining articles. This year before publication the staff spent hours finding topics, con- tacting sources, justifying the final draft, typing the copy and frantically working against time to meet the printing deadline. After this work was completed the staff then had the job of selling the final product. The papers were always exciting and readers could never be sure what to expect as they turned the pages. Pictured right are members of the Smoke Signal staff working on their next issue. -.fi J WIHS News This year the WIHS news staff has done the school a great service by supplying the student body with entertaining and informative broadcasts. Under the new guidance of Mrs. Peg lobst and producer Patty Hitzges the news pro- grams took a new approach by adding sports features and documentary on community events. The students learned about preparing news for television by hunting for stories, writing news copies. and producing the video broad- casts. The result of their ef- forts was a consistently infor- mative, professional news show. Move over ABC, NBC. and CBS, here comes the WIHS news! Pictured Left are the WIHS news anchorpersons. Behind the knowledge and leadership of head coach, Mr. Phil Glass, the team fin- ished their season as the ECL runnerup with an impressive 13-3 slate. Despite a couple of disappointing mid-season losses, the team was able to rebound and gain a berth in the District 10 playoffs. Iroquois advanced to the championship by knocking off Saegertown in a tight ballgame before their season came to an end. The hardballers amassed an overall 14-4 record and more impor- tantly the winning baseball tradition continued.
