We hold life in our hands . . . . . . like a book. THE BOOK OF LIFE in the darkness in the emptiness: a spark. Barely a pinpoint. It glows. It grows. It bobs. It throbs. And. scintillating, pulsating, life begins. BANG! Exploding into the darkness with the vigor of its birth, life spreads, branching out, seeking every corner, gathering speed, life unfolds like an opening book. Colorful, intriguing, funny, and magic is the book of life. 2 On the pages of memory wonderful stories are told. Storybook Memories are made and stored in its pages. People, proceedings, and places from the past pop up in the pages of life . . . special pages called memory. Sometimes spectacular events separate chapters; more often the transition is so gradual that one chapter melts into the next. 3 Dawn Thus it begins, the story of life. The setting is complete, the cast of characters is drawn up, the plot is ready to blossom. And now: the beginning . . . Because Mr. Funke is the type of man who is always willing to listen. Charles James Funke was born June 10, 1943 in Batavia, New York. He attended East Pembroke Central, where he was class president and cap- tain of the football and basketball teams. Graduating in 1961, Mr. Funke went on to the University of Buffalo to study physical education. Mr. Funke did his student teaching at Iroquois, and in 1966 was hired to teach elementary phys-ed here. Three years later he accepted the position that brought him in contact with high school students: teaching health. Mr. Funke presently lives in Depew with his wife, Jane, and their three children. As a coach in track, football, and basketball, and more recently as freshman-class guidance adviser, Mr. Funke has come in contact with probably the entire student body. But the class of ’73 will always remember him as their personal friend. And for this reason the 1973 IROQUOIAN is hereby dedicated to Mr. Funke. Mr. Funke waits for an opening. Someday’s sunken treasure is a sumptuous sum to plunder, but guarded by some substance which no man can rend asunder The prospect of it glistens in the handsome summer sun and the glory of the search will be passed on from son to son How many men have lived and died still searching for their someday? Why can’t they be content to live their lives from Mon-to-Sunday Perhaps someday I’ll end my search and solemnly cease to roam; walk backwards on the Someday road until it takes me home. 168 169 What Do You Want Out of Life? moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney moneymoneymoneymoneymoney . . . love. almighty clock they move from cubicle 170 s s ssssssssssss ssssssssssssss $s s $ sss ss s s ss s s ssssssssssssss ssssssssssssss s $ ss s $ ss sss s s ss sssssssssssssss sssssssssssss $ s ft ( :£s to cubicle In a vicious circus 171 when you hear the signal the time will be Merry-go-round And as the sun sinks slowly into the west, the singing cowboy croons a lone lament by the glowing embers that are all that remain of what was once a roaring blaze, that once was a single spark.
