r After consulting with Father Nyman, I hereby give the students of Ironwcod Catholic High School per- mission to go ahead with plans for the yearbook. $?■ , ------------------------------------ Faculty..................................0..7 Freshman...................................13 Sophmore...................................15 Junior.....................................21 Senior.....................................25 Activities.................................35 Sports................................... 4S Advert isments.............................69 FORWARD On behalf of the Staff of the 1972 Loner, I sincerely hope that we have accomplished the goal set ahead 01 us in September. This annual is the first to be published for Tronwood Catholic High School. Before consoli- dation, the last successful attempt at an annual was in 19?7. With these facts before us, our idea seemed like an impossible dream. However, with determination and effort, our dream became a reality. The name, The Loner, which was voted on by the Student Dody, was suggested by Jill Skaja. She felt this was an appropriate title since ICH is the ,nly Catholic high school to remain open in the upper peninsula. Our theme this year is signs —symbolizing the guiding directions in life that show us the way. Throughout The Loner we have striven to capture the most cherished moments of our high school life. Whatever the work and worry, -.we have enjoyed working top ther and we ’.would especially like to thank Mr. Crenda, our faculty advisor, who gave us so freely of his time and energy. With these thoughts in mind, we present, The Loner. Sincerely, Debbie firenfell, Sditor DEDICATION To you, Monsignor Joseph Dunleavy, we dedicate The Lon- er of 1972 in deep appreciation for your spiritual guidance and immense help in the development of our school. Through your efforts to consolidate, we have united as one, Ironwood Catholic High School. Since'you always had time for us despite your busy schedule, we shared v ith you our problems, knowing you would listen. Sven though you are away from us, your thoughts remain with us. Thank you, Mon- signor, for everything. APPRECIATION We pay tribute to ycu, Sister Maurice, for the endless time and effort you spent in giving us a well-rounded educa- tion. Your '. - mined spirit moved many of us to get the job done on time without, useless delay. You were always there when we needed you—ready to help us accomplish some impos- sible feat. With highest regard, we would like to take this moment to say Thank you. FACULTY ADMINISTRATION 6. SCHOOL BOARD Seated: Mrs. Stano, Mr. C. Supercynski (Pres.), Mr. T. Lopez Standing: Mrs. L. ACTIVITIES NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY Seated: T. Gorrilla, A. Kavinsky, K. Nelson St nding: P. Decur, V. Stano, V. Lopez, E. McGrath, K. Skaja, D. Grenfell, M. Bettiga Admission to this organization is one of the greatest honors that can come to a high school student, for it stands for excellence of achievement not only in one line, but in various lines of endeavor. Scholarship alone will not admit a student to the National Honor Society. To scholarship must be added service; to service, leadership; and to leadership, charac- ter. A student, therefore, may earn A's and not be elected to the Honor Society if he does nothing for his school or if he shows traits of charac- ter that are undesirable. The membership is limited by the Charter to those who have an average of 85% or above. The students who have attained this standard and who have been chosen by secret ballot of the faculty to become members of the National Honor Society are therefore, greatly to be congratulated upon the excellence of their record while in high school. 36 STUDENT COUNCIL Seated: M. Class colors • light blue and silver Class flower - lily of the valley Class motto - What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us - Ralph Waldo Emerson Class song - Desiderata Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth a.uietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than your- self. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affec- tion. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and lonliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. There- fore, be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and what- ever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace with your soul. With all its shame, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. STRIVE to be happy. You knew the necessity of a good education in today's complex world and you worked to attain that education. Congratulations should also be given to the people of the Ironwood Catholic High School for recognizing the value of a good education for their young people. May you, too, be as eager to provide the proper education for coming generations as you take your place in the adult world.
