That year was full of new and exciting events like our first dance after a football game, and attending pep sessions to in- spire our team to play with the greatest desire. By the end of that year we had become accustomed to the routine of high school life. Then, before we knew it, we were FRESHMEN. As Freshmen, we had our first chance to elect class officers and pick our class colors, which are blue and gold. Mr. 0. M. Wiseman acted as our class advisor and made it possible for us to have skating parties and candy sales, the proceeds of which purchased a clock for the school library. As Sophomores, Miss Maridel Davidson was our class advisor. Remember the class party we had in the cafeteria? This was the “waiting” year. We were all waiting for the time to come when we would be Juniors. Our Junior year was full of excitement. We ordered our class rings and some were “given away” before they came in. Mrs. Wimmer, our advisor, worked hard in helping us decorate the gym for our Junior-Senior Prom. Our class play “Desperate Ambrose” received many pleasant comments. Then came the time in our lives we will always remember; we became SENIORS. This was our last year and we made the most of it. Everyone worked hard toward making this a year to remember. We rehearsed our class play diligent- ly, hoping we wouldn’t forget a line. We started early in the year working on our annual. We were busy ordering our invitations and getting fitted for caps and gowns. Then came Spring, and all the events of graduation made us rea- lize that it would all soon be over and we would be gone. But we were glad we had been among those who would be receiving diplomas. The words of our Commencement speaker still linger on in our minds. We had a wonderful time at our prom, and our May Crowning was a spectacular event. Then it was all over. As we go out in life, we can always remember the days we spent together. We have a lump in our throats and an ache of sorrow in our hearts as we leave, but we have our lives to live and we must move on to make way for those who follow us. 32 DANNY ADAMS “Scrounge General: Football 1; Basketball 2, 3, 4; Key Club 2, 3, 4; Mixed Chorus 1, 2 3; Spanish Club 2, 3, 4; Usher 2. Anticipation—because we have walked beside the mighty Seniors at Class Night, been seated in their place and next year will stand atop the ladder facing life with the knowledge gained in the climb. Nostalgia—be- cause to us this is a most important rung on which we now stand: our first Junior-Senior Prom, the privilege of earning and managing the treasury, our first class play, the Varsity teams with more of our boys, the class rings— all big events to us of the Junior Class. To our teachers, parents, and the men and women of our Nation, who have made this climb in education possible, we give our sincere thanks. 43 PHOTO NOT AVAILABLE PHOTO NOT AVAILABLE Carolyn Alstott Larry Beasley Carol Belville Barbara Bishop Jerry Blakeman Lowell Bodmer Myra Boyer James Bradshaw Katherine Bradshaw Donald Brown Jeanette Bryant Betty Campbell Michael Cassidy Shirley Clark Annette Cleary Jeanette Cleary Gwendolyn Collins Juanita Compton Joy Corn Donna Cox Thelma Cox Charles Cunningham Elaine Dalton Helen Davidson Judy Davidson Richard Davidson Jesse Davis Brenda Derifield Margaret Dixon Earl Douglas Charles Edgerton Dean Elliot Rita Ervin Robert Fetters Karla Feuchter Carmen Fields Nadine Fife Barbara Fillgrove Charles Fisher Oakie Ford David Frazer Carla Frische John Fundersol Patricia Gannon Frances Gibson Fred Gool David Hass Gloria Hammond James Hammond Janet Hardy Helen Harlacher Donald Harr Andra Harris Linda Hayes Judy Higgins Charlotte Hobson Phyllis Holston Paul Houston Hazel Huff Gerald Hunt Janet Johnson William Kettle Richard King Kenneth Knight Edward Kreger James Kurtz Andrew Kyle Mickey Lane Robert Lawless Patricia Layne Alfreda Lewis Marilinda Lewis Ward Lewis Susan Long Kay Lovejoy Ernestine Lunsford Wallace Lux Eugene Lynd Dennis Madden Patricia Martin Mildred Massie Peggy Matney John Mayer Mamie Mayo Kay McKee Mary Miller Betty Moore Patricia Moore Carl Moritz Dorothy Munro Janet Murphy William Nelsoa Gene Newhouser Don Nicol James Norris Linda Norris Wanda Northrup Judy Osborne Tom Osborne Carl Palmer Linda Perry Diane Peters Charlie Pierce Frances Ratliff Dick Rice Sue Richardson Larry Riley Tom Riley Faye Ridgeway Diane Rigsby Linda Roberts Rebecca Runyon Wilma Russell Connie Ruth Donna Salle Suzanne Saunders Edward Shafer Richard Schwab Jay Schweichart Lowell Schweichart David Sedziol John Shotsky Joe Singleton Joyce Smith Larry Smith Sue Smith Ralph Snead Gloria Sparks Gary Spencer Joyce Spooner Linda Stewart Roger Stewart Keith Stowes Linda Swartz David Taylor Stanley Terry Robert Toothman Nell Rose Vallance Allen Vance Daiiiel Vencill David Venz Patsy Waller Donald Walters Louis Webb Marshall Webb Phyllis? We got lost quite often and to add to our confusion, upperclassmen called us “peanuts,” which we didn’t appreciate. Now we can see why, we certainly weren’t very big at all. At first, Ironton High School seemed a pretty lonely place, and we all looked back longingly at our secure grade school days. Soon, however, we made friends and our world ceased to be so forbidding. That was the begin- ning of our class, when we united to help each other in September of 1954. Then, all of a sudden, we were FRESHMEN. Everything was less confus- ing and we were becoming veterans. Our social world blossomed from the G.A.A. dance to the many kinds of activities the school calender allowed. We took a more active part in school; elected officers, and best of all we finally got to sit downstairs in the auditorium. Now we’re Sophomores! Half of our school life is behind us and we are looking forward eagerly to the next two years. Mr. Ben Lynd, our class ad- visor, has helped us greatly, without him and our officers, our class projects would have failed. We hope that we are worthy of these fine people who have helped us so much. Next year we will be Juniors; our Sophomore year will be a page turned, perhaps to better things. I hope that we can be proud of this year, as a class, for it cannot be relived. We can only pray that when it is gone we can say, “We’ve done our best.” 52 53 A CUB PREPARES FOR BIGGER THINGS HOMEROOM 214—First row: Carson, Bishop, Chinn, Clay, Corley, Brickey, Brice, Carman. It was a year of making new friends, learning our way around and really becoming a part of Ironton High. By the end of the year, we felt right at home and before we hardly realized it the year had passed and we were FRESHMEN. As Freshmen we elected officers and with the help of Mrs. Imler, our advisor, have taken part in all school activities when possible. It has been a year full of new and exciting experiences. Our most outstanding project is our annual Christmas party at the Children’s Home. The boys worked very hard to prepare everything, and everyone felt very good to see the happy smiles of the children at the Home. Our club also had a skating party which helped pay our way to a Cincinnati Redleg ball game this summer. We also made a trip to Columbus to see an Ohio State football game. This year has been great for the Ro Club, and we look for bigger and better things in the years to come. First row: Wood, Schweickart, Allen, Fisher, Brumberg, Midkiff, Shafer, Sweeney. The slogan is “Pure Thoughts. Pure Words, and Pure Actions.” The Tri-Hi-Y means being with friends, making new ones, and deepening and enriching friendship. Doing interesting things together, discussing the many problems and subjects important to high school students, and sharing our best efforts for the good of the club, school and community—these make for the deepest friendships. As Armco grew, we located our plants and offices in more and more cities and towns throughout the world. Today, Armco is a citizen of more than a hundred different communities. And in each of them we try to earn the reputation of being a good neighbor. Our neighbors in the Ashland-lronton area have been friendly, considerate and helpful to our company. And sometimes we were able to do a neighborly deed in return—during floods; during campaigns when new hospitals were to be built; during the difficulties of wartime living, the problems of depressions and the pleasures of peace and prosperity. There's nothing new or recent about Armco's decision to take an active interest in our community. That has been the policy of our company ever since the day we were born. We know that to have good neighbors, we ourselves must be a good neighbor. Over the years, Armco has enjoyed the helpful friendship of a great many fine neighbors in the Ashland-lron- ton area. We want them to like us, too. Why wait until illness strikes to call a doctor? As high school graduates, many of you will soon be estab- lishing homes of your own. When you assume the responsibilities of a home, select your family doctor as soon as possible. This will give him the opportunity to know your medical problems and to give you the kind of protective care you expect from a good doctor and a family friend. Obtain a list of qualified physicians from the county and medical society. Professional education, age, length of time in practice and other background data can be secured from the AMERICAN MEDICAL DIRECTORY, published by the Ameri- can Medical Association and is available in most libraries and hospitals. When you have selected your family doctor, consider him your health advisor, and for your health's sake, follow his ad- vice.
