As high school graduates, many of you will soon be establishing homes of your own. When you assume the responsibilities of a home, select your family doctor as soon as possible. This will give him the opportunity to know your medical problems and to give you the kind of protective care you expect from a good doctor and a family friend. Obtain a list of qualified physicians from the county medical society. Professional education, age, length of time in practice and other back- ground data can be secured from the AMERICAN MEDICAL DIREC- TORY, published by the American Medical Association and is available in most libraries and hospitals. When you have selected your family doctor, consider him your health advisor, and for your health's sake, follow his advice. During this first year, we made friends with teenagers from all over our city. Remember the night we went to our first football game? Remember the first night we cheered for the team that was now a part of us? Then came the basketball games and our first high school dance. Besides the social activities, we became acquainted with the whole routine of high school life. By June, we didn’t rush to class, we didn’t have to look on a door for its number, and we didn’t mind being called “peanuts. This year passed quickly, and before we had a chance to realize it, we were freshmen. The outstanding features in our freshman year were electing our class officers and choosing our class colors and flower. Under the supervision of our advisor. Mr. 0. M. Wiseman, we had our skating parties and our candy sales. In this year we felt like “old hands” in the high school life. Miss Eloise Moreland was our advisor for our sophomore year. Do you remember the sock dances we held in the big gym and the Christmas parties we gave at the county homes? Our thoughts this year were directed toward the next year when we would be juniors. Our interest in our junior year centered around the Junior-Senior Prom. Wasn’t it fun to get out of class to decorate the gym? We all will agree, I think, that due to Mrs. Ruth Lambert, our advisor, we had a very successful prom. We had the thrill of buying our class rings this year. Also some of us had the opportunity to show our dramatic ability in our class play, “Come Over To Our House.’ The time really flew in our junior year. Then came our last year at Ironton High School. W’e had come to love it deep down in our hearts. There w’ere many things to be done this year. Among the activities were presenting our class play, “Hillbilly Weddin’”; preparing our annual, the Owl: ordering our invitations and cards: getting measured for our caps and gowns. We were able to do these things under our advisor, Mrs. Edna Hannon. This year contained the last of everything-—the last football game, when we cheered the team to a victory over our rival, Portsmouth; the last basketball game: the last track meet. But. besides these last activities we have had our May Crowning. Prom, Class Night, Baccalaureate, and Commencement. As we look hack upon our high school years, we see years filled with joy and sorrow', happiness and disappointments. In these years some of us have excelled in scholarship, in sports, and in other fields. In these years wre have lost some members and have gained others. We, as a class, have finished our schooling together. We will go our separate ways, hut we w'ill always remember that we were a part of the graduating class of 1956. We can always remember that there will never be another class named the Class of 1956.
