We are indeed grateful. The first Board of Education ruled there would be twelve months of school with a three weeks vacation. -., . Ironton High When The Band Goes Into Action Many pleasant memories are recalled when we pondering- Iy think of the happy days spent in lronton. Even during the Civil and Spanish American Wars people were busily engaged in the art of music. Numerous citizens of our community recall the old band stands located at Riverview and Beechwood parks. They too can remember the high stepping activities of the former Fred B. Davies, and Mr. james Hunter who still resides in lronton. Drum And Bugle Corp Another musical organization is the Drum and Bugle Corp of the American Legion. This organization lends a patriotic air to the parades and pageants in which it participates. Strains form the old familiar tunes of Maggie, Merry Widow Waltz, Tramp, Tramp, Tramp, The Girl l Left Behind Me, and the Old Cray Mare are still in existence but seldom heard. We hear our present band play the famous marches, waltzes, and boogie woogie tunes at the football games and on the assembly pro- grams. The banquet was held in the Cafeteria, the dance in the gymnasium. The nautical theme was carried out most effectively. The admission ticket was in the form of a passport and the favors were plastic ships with individual names on them. Our queen, Nancy Edwards, escorted by Bill Haskins, presi- dent of the junior Class, led the Grand March, followed by Phyllis Stapf, Attendant, escorted by john Barker, president of the Senior Class. The gym was most attractively decorated as the deck of a ship, the color scheme being blue and white. The ceiling was lowered to give the effect of a sky with silver stars scattered about. At one end of the gym a miniature light-house, with a rotating beam reflecting on lights in the form of '48 and '49, was situated. We are grateful to Mrs. Lucille H. Boothe, junior-Class adviser and adviser of the prom, for making this affair one of the most outstanding events of our activities.
