SENIOR HISTORY Our class made its debut into I.H.S. life in the fall of 1947. After approximately one week we came to this conclusion—“Grammar school was NEVER like this!” Education assumed large and horrible proportions. However, we soon acclimated ourselves to new subjects, different teachers, prodigious assignments, and realizing that unity is the basis of strength, selected Bruce McPherson to pilot our “first-class” ship through the year. The freshman party in February provided us with such a superlative evening that we persuaded Mr. White, freshman class adviser, to let us stage a picnic in the spring at Willowpoint Park. After summer vacation had expired, and we had mourned for the proper length of time, we all honored Irondequoit by returning as sophomores. Immediately launching ourselves as a class, we chose Richard Makin to reign over us for the next ten months. February found us cavorting merrily at the “Cotton Ball,” our sophomore party. In an Old South setting, we danced from 8:00 until 11:30. As a climax to the occasion, we crowned Bruce McPherson and Jacqueline Taylor king and queen of the evening. Under the guidance of Mrs. Hazel Lalonde, we put our shoulders to the grindstone to make the Tuberculosis Drive a success. “Time and tide wait for no man”—and suddenly we became upperclassmen. With Gordon Raitt as captain and Mr. John Dodge to help us, we found outlet for our altruistic propensities by sponsoring the 1950 Red Cross Drive. We chose the novel, but not necessarily drippy, theme “April Showers” for our Junior Prom. Brightly bedecked couples swayed to the strains of Syl Novelli and his orchestra from 9:00 until 12:00. Bruce McPherson and Jacqueline Taylor once more received honors when the coronation committee crowned them king and queen. Suddenly our senior year was upon us. Waving farewell to the old school, our home for three years, we moved into the new edifice down Cooper Road. Richard Makin again took over the reins of administration for the year. Following typical fourth year pursuits, we faced the camera for senior pictures, Miss Averill and tape measure for caps and gowns and pounded the pavements with magazine subscriptions to finance our annual. Realizing that “Enchanted Isles” would be our last class project, we turned out en masse for the event. Johnny Hartzog and band furnished music for the dancers, and Nancy Phelan was chosen queen of the Ball while Richard Makin was elected to the kingship. June brought the senior banquet, exams and graduation. What shall we take with us when we go? Work on the Neodaondaquat starts early in the fall with the secret choice of a theme; editors appoint committee members who do much of the monoton¬ ous proof-reading, typing, and reference work. Artists rack their brains to devise a vivid means of expressing the theme. Photography preserves the record of an¬ other school year. In June, the yearbook makes its public debut as the senior class contribution to the history of Ironde- quoit High School. IV E D D A D IV D A Oil A T Standing : A. Vaisey, Co-News Editor; P. Although all the editors of Rodequoit, the school newspaper, are seniors, members of the lower classes do much of the reporting, typing, proof-reading and headlining. Boasting the coveted ratings of “All American” and “All New York State,” the paper appears nine times during the year. Photography, art and variable make-up lend each issue an air of individuality. Editorials, athletic reports and news items reflect the activity of the whole student body. 49 OFFICERS Back Row. R. Freese, Vice-President; Mr. Parker, Director; C. Fullerton, Sec¬ retary-Treasurer.
