79 As I was cruising along on Highway 56, I noticed the scenery seemed quite familiar. Then much to my surprise I saw on a sign the name of Ireland and realized this was my old home town. As I drove on through town, I saw a huge sign advertising Betty's Unique Dress Designs. I parked my car and went in. There I saw Miss Betty Rohleder at her desk giving orders, and I realized that was my old class mate. We chatted for awhile and I asked her what had happened to Tom Sermersheim and she informed me that he was now the Governor of Indiana. I decided to see the capital building which had been moved from Indiaapolis to Ireland and also to talk to Tom. Thinking that Tom would know the where-abouts of the rest of our classmates, I asked him about each one of them. Tom informed me that Raphael Ackerman and Norb Mehringer have become partners in the coal mining industry and are noted for their new method of putting out more coal in the fall than any other mine in this part of the country. Betty Armstrong is now in Alaska where her husband is a 5-star General. General Miller is very famous and you often see Mrs. Miller at many social events and in the news reels. Paul Schitter was head of the new Sportsmen's club with his coon dogs. Leland Durcholtz is now a large plantation owner. His wealth is due to his ability of thinking up easier and shorter ways of doing things. Millie Miller, who has been Mrs. Goodman since 1952, is specializing in raising short-nosed beagel dogs at the Good-Dog Kennel owned and operated by her husband. All through school Alma Sendelweck and Viola Goeppner had their heads to- gether. Now I realize why as I noticed the billboard advertising the Daring Women Drivers. They were famous for their famous spine thrilling stunts. Mrs. Morris Weiden- benner is the former Mildred Hulsman, who is now stewardess on Mr. Weidenbenner's plane. Morris has won several medals for his excellent flying ability. Living happily married for twenty years, they also are the proud and happy parents of ten boys. Mr. Weidenbenner also coaches the famous Weidenbenner Family Hot Shots, basketball team. Mitzie has been married and divorced three times but has been seen lately with the Duke of Edenburg. Maybe with the Duke's money and social standing she will be satisfied, after all, what else is there in marriage? Mizenta Schwenzy better known to the old grads as Nancy Schwenk is now a gypsie dancerg she has been featured at the Flamingo at Chicago for the past two years. I continued on my way after talking to Alma and Viola. As I drove on through town I was very pleased and amazed at all the changes that had been made. And I left with a feeling of pride of my home town IRELAND. 13
