ew sw.. In the one thousand nine hundred forty-eighth year of our Lord, on the eighth day of the ninth month, nineteen sudents entered a new stage in their life cycle as the Green Freshmen of Ireland High School. Our first business procedure was the following election of class sponsor and officers: Miss Seng, Sponsor, Betty Rohleder, President, Tom Sermersheim, Vice President, Raphael Ackerman, Treasurer, Alma Sendelweck, Secretary. Participating on the bask- etball line-up were: Morris Weidenbenner, Paul Schitter, Tom Sermersheim, Raphael Ackerman, LeRoy Hupp and Norb Mehringer. Soon our Freshmen year was brought to a close with great success being accomplished. Our first class meeting as Sophomores was held to choose the officers as follows: President, Morris Weidenbenner, Vice President, Randy McCain, Secretary, Juliann Schuler, Treasurer, Norma Werner. Mr. Allen was chosen as our class sponser. We then had the pleasure of initiating the Freshmen. A few months later we were the show off's with our grey class sweaters. We decided to change the old custom and have IHS and 52 on our sweaters. In basketball we had Paul Schitter, Tom Sermersheim, and Raphael Ackerman on the second team. Morris Weidenbenner and Norb Mehringer were on the first team. Betty Rohleder and J uliann Schuler were two of the four cheer- leaders. - Mrs. Frances Weaver was chosen class sponser for the Junior year. Alma Sendel- week, President, Betty Armstrong, Vice President, Raphael Ackerman, Secretary, Tom Sermersheim, Treasurer. We were proud to announce that Morris Weidenbenner, Tom Sermersheim, Paul Schitter, and Norb Mehringer were on the Spud squad. Betty Roh- leder was appointed cheerleader. We received our class rings which we flashed before everyone's eye, making them gaze and also envy us. Beginning the new year we were busy With our class play. The entire Junior Class participated in our play, Angell Brats , which was given before a large crowd with the help of Mrs. Weaver our director. The Junior-Senior Prom was given April 17, 1951, at the Jasper Country Club. Carol Wagner and Alf Burger were chosen queen and king. As the Senior Class of 1952 we returned the following fall, realizing this would be our last year of school. Class of- ficers were elected as follows: President, Marita Gress, Vice President, Viola Goeppner, Secretary, Leland Durcholz, Treasurer, Raphael Ackermann. Mr. Buechler was chosen class sponser. Actions speak louder than words is true for the class of 52. Our play Damsel in Distress was chosen over the summer months and given October 10 and 11. Our class may also boast as breaking all financial records of Ireland High School in the presentation of a play. Over 900 people saw the production. The play was directed by Mr. Buechler. The Seniors again introduced the new idea of giving a public stocking-foot round and square dance in the gym. On Dec. 15, 1951, a bake sale was given with much success. The basketball line-up for a very successful year with our new coach, Jerry Kemp were as follows: Morris Weidenbenner, Captain, Paul Schitter, and Tom Sermersheim. Betty Rohleder was again elected cheerleader. The Seniors had the responsibility of decorating the basketball queen's throne. Mildred Hulsman was crowned queen and Alma Sendelweck was maid-of-honor. Mildred Miller was chosen to represent Ireland High School at the Fall Festival at Huntingburg. The big finale to our high school life was a trip to Washington D. C.. On April 24, 1952, fourteen proud but sad seniors received their diplomas. Our four years at I. H. S. were a success. - ll
