Lffffe Dear Ira High School, It's queer, but when we become Seniors, things that were unimportant before, all at once seem very important! Rushing to the lunchroom, the scramble in the halls, the slamming of books as the bell rings and echoes through the building, and last but not least is the practicing of basketball and our scheduled games - these will be only memories in the following years. Dear teachers - we shall remember you not only as great friends but also as guides. We wish to ex- press our appreciation to you for helping us with both skill and patience over the hard places. You, schoolmates, have been the dear friends of our youth and we shall not soon forget you. We, the Seniors of 1947, ask you, Ira High - always remember us for we shall never forget you. Your friends forever, cgufoffkzk fandsfz fi mzrfmyffs High School graduates often ask: what is an education for? Certainly it should increase one's learning ca- pacityg it slmuld help one find employmentg but such results are by-products of education. The main results of the right kind of education are an increased capaci- ty to serve and to enjoy life in its higher reaches. The clerk in the smallest store is rich if he is proper- ly educatedg the owners of our largestindustries are poor if they are unacquainted with life's invisible values. High School gives purposeful youth an opportunity to find the richest treasure of life - knowledge with its relationships and significance, friendships with its stabilizing and satisfying influences , and a way of life that helps put all things in their right places. If my student friends have gained each for himself, some of these values, they vrlll not ask: What is an education for? if 7-ffl' ff W i.re-'SQ-I 5 il SUP 1K1 W aaa!! f MISS PATSY HARDEE W.T.fPATJ FALLS H.E. We traveled on, and in l943, our eighth.year, we picked up three others who have stayed with.us ever since. Our Graduation Exercise from the 8th grade was cer- tainly a great affair Cto us, and we shall remember it always. As we wandered into High School, we acquired two others, and in the meantime lost three of our class- mates to Snyder. Before we could realize that our first year in High School was finished, the school bells rang to tell us that another year was over, and we had become Sophomores. That year only one joined our happy group but the following year, our Junior year, we gained another classmate so our class was not so small after all. Our Junior year we had to work and save for the Junior-Senior banquet that occurred in May. The banquet, which was formal, was a big success. The year of 1947 finds us Seniors, and we are proud to state that although there are only sixteen of us, we have six girls and three boys on the basketball team. To sum it up, we have had many years of fun together at dear old Ira, and we are planning to have minys more. , I . Class Reporter, mfs? grew BUCK is the favorite of our class, and also a very good sport, He has blond hair and very blue eyes, and is an ace on the basketball court. JUANITA, the girl with the long, blond hair, and an athlete like her brothers, With gray-green eyes and a laughing mouth, she is really quite different fran others Now CAROLINE'S nice in her own sweet way, as a class favorite she's a cutie, With big, green eyes and fluttering lashes, you'll agree she is our beauty. BILLIE JEAN DAVIS, our carnival queen, is the small one of our lot, With really brown eyes and a very sweet smile, there's nothing she hasn't got. ODELL is the newest one in our class, with black hair and very brown eyes, He is really smart and a very good sport, he's tops with the girls and the guys. BILLIE JO is the girl with all the class, personality, poise, and looks, An expert player in all her sports, and a genius in all her books. I guess you've heard of BILLIE JOYCE, about her recitation, To say her poetry am' time, is to her like recreation. There is a quiet one in our class, I know you all have seen, She studies hard and does her work, yes, it is WINNIE JEAN. But have you thought of BETTY, a girl who studies hard? Who is a friend to everyone, in basketball - a guard. I know you've thought of TOMMY, who's always on the spot, Hia favorite sport is basketball, he has never missed a shot. Yes, there is someone in our class with his lessons up to par, The teachers' delight and everyone's friend, it's CALVIN we're rooting for. And now we come to WANDA, the one who makes the grades, Who has brown hair and light blue eyes, and a smile that never fades. Oh, have you seen our annual with pictures that look the smartest? The one that drew them is no one else than KENNETH, the seniors' artist. I have no ability to be a poet, and I know that you can guess it, So I will close by saying this: I never will possess it. ---1-Q---iq--. lu-l-11-v1 -1-u-1--qi-9 .. 1-1- .-11. 514 fa? iz 'J'--'f9l7 il TOMMY STERLING Best SKB iw '59 ,CN JUANITA BISHOP Secretary H. They mm second place in the county tournament, being de- feated by a tally of four points by the Hermleigh Cardinals. At the Blackwell tournament they again proved winners by defeating Wingate by a score of 1,3-13. Nosing out Hennleigh in their second game by four points , they proceeded on to the finals where Highland defeated than by e. margin of five points. Although the Ira boys won only eight games out of the nine teen they played, they had improved greatly at the end of the season, and won third place in District by defeating Blackwell and Divide. With much training, thq expect to have a winning team again next year since they are losing only two of their main players. 1 S ! gm' QM he me ff The basketball girls have stayed on the winning side this season, losing only four games out of 17. They brought home two first place trophies , one of which was county championship, and one second place trophy. The four losing battles of thelseason went to Westbrook in seven evenly matched and hard fought games in which Ira came out three times victor. In the final game of the county championship tournament, Pyron was defeated by a score of 21-ll. For first place at the Blackwell tournament, Ira won over McCaulley by five points, and then defeated Sylvester' 29-13, and went on to the finals to beat Blackwell 27-7. At the Ira tournament they were forfeited the first game by Pyron, and then nosed Blackwell out by one point only to be defeated by Westbrook by one point. Much to the sorrow of the remaining girls, all but one player on the mein team will graduate this year, but with care- ful training the Ira Bulldogs will again have a winning team. !
