SOCIAL STUDIES The Social Studies Department The Ipswich High School Social Studies Department is creative, help- ful, and ener getic. Each member of the department adds a special touch to the environment and the curricu- lum of the school. Ron Toleos, our department head, was known for using some rather strange teaching techniques. Classes often found themselves outside chanting Indian spirituals or stum- bling blindly about on trust walks. Rick Storer, best known for West- ern Civilization, starts his class ev- eryday with a smile and a joke. Mr. Storer is also involved with many ac- tivities from the Leadership Project to the Ipswich High School track team. Our political science teacher, Ken Spellman, may teach CI.S. govern- ment by day, but he is also a football coach and student government advi- sor. For economic and foreign culture classes stop in Mr. Dembowski’s room. He conducts his class with hu- mor and concern for students. Jane Rotsko, with her enthusiasm for history, has taken the department by storm. She has generated fresh- men participation in the political pro- cess. It is obvious that the members of the Social Studies Department have a great amount of talent, experience, and enthusiasm. Nancy Emerson Amy Lovell

BUSINESS AND LIBRARY The Business Department The Business Department pro- vides an exploratory experience for students going to college as well as providing entry level training for those going directly into the job mar- ket. Another aspect of the Business De- partment is the business club, Busi- ness Professionals of America, other- wise known as OEA. The business club has been at Ipswich since 1974 and provides an opportunity for stu- dents to test their business skills. Ev- ery spring, members of the business club enter a state and national con- test where they always perform ex- ceptionally well. This demonstrates the commitment of our business teachers, as well as the enthusiasm of the students. ATHLETICS The Athletic Department The newly expanded Athletic De- partment at IHS consists of various opportunities for students to develop their athletic ability. To ensure safe- ty, the department has hired an ath- letic trainer to prevent and treat inju- ries. Gym teachers have emphasized fitness as well as specific sports. Health is also heavily stressed. To- gether these teachers are committed to teaching sports and fitness that can be useful throughout life. Tom Faulds Athletic Trainer John Thomas Steve Hopping Micki McVann Clerk Jack Welch 17
