IPSWICH ROOM Ipswich FV ' wc Library Ipswich, rhcsrcch usetfs In Memory Of Mary Walle DEDIO The Best Of Times The best of times is now. What’s left of summer but a faded rose? The best of times is now. As for tomorrow, well, who knows? who knows? So hold this moment fast. And live and love as hard as you know how. Hold it fast. And make this moment last because the best of times is now, Now, not some forgotten yesterday. Now, tomorrow is too far away. And make this moment last because the best of times is now. By Jerry Herman TION T 1 A GOOD LUCK IN RETIREMENT! 1 l ' Debbie Scherer recieves her first diploma In keeping with the theme of the Tiger Times, we would like to thank the man behind the “Re- Admit Slips’’- it’s about time to thank Mr. McKenzie. Mr. McKenzie came to Ipswich High School in September 1958 as a math teacher and then later became vice principal. His trademark-jingling keys-can be heard echoing throughout the school. John Thomas, IHS Class of 1967, remembers that those keys struck fear into all students deterring misbehaver. All it would take was the sound of those keys; their effect is just as potent in 1989 as it was in 1958. It’s also rumored that in 1966 Mr. McKenzie had a plethora of wild ties to hand out to young men who had “forgotten” their own. It is further rumored that he had a ruler to measure young women’s skirts to make sure they were below the knees. Joseph Rogers, our past principal, wonders if Mr. McKenzie remembers the “Old School” and the student, Rollie Singer! Times have changed since the “Old School,” but Mr. McKenzie has continued to always be available for students. He is a caring friend looking out for our best interests. Without him, graduation would never come about. His never ending energy, advice, and constant guidance to classes over the years cannot be measured. He has educated us in every meaning of the word- from freshman orientation to graduation rehearsal. Thank you for everything Mr. McKenzie- you will be missed. 3 IT’S ABOUT TIME . . . To Appreciate The Commitment And Efforts Of The Faculty Inside And Outside Of The Classroom. You all know who he is. There is no one else like him — no other teacher spends his days playing Scruples with his psychology classes, or gliding down the halls on rollers- kates. His name is Ron Toleos; he came to Ipswich the year most of us were born, and left after the first quarter of this year. Mr. Toleos was never your average teacher. He told us weird Freudian things with that familiar devilish gleam in his eyes, the look of a child who found his Christmas presents a month early; that look that said he had something wonderful to share. His goals in life were to find “the truth” and to help humanity through music, through the presidency of the Ipswich Teachers Association, and through his classes-but most of all, he wanted to be where the action was. If we wanted to try something out of the ordinary, like spon- soring a schoolwide fundraiser, playing Christmas music over the intercom be- tween classes, or organizing a chapter of Amnesty International, we knw where to go. If our lives were in shambles, he was always willing to listen and help. Now Ron Toleos is off to where the action is - to one of the most challenging schools in the state. He is the new vice-principle at Chelsea High School, participating in an experiment that warranted an article in Tim Magazine. Mr. Toleos- we will always miss you, but we know that your commitment to helping others will flourish in all your upcoming challenges. FACULTY Ellen Salah ADMINISTRATION To the Members of the Class of 1989: I appreciate being given the oppor- tunity by the editorial staff of “Tiger” to share a few, thoughts with you as you leave Ipswich High School. I feel an affinity with your class in that we both came to Ipswich High School in the Fall of 1985. Both of us lacked the experience that formed the school background of the sopho- mores and upperclassmen who “knew” our school in 1985. Together we went through many changes that caused more consternation among them than among us freshmen. Throughout your four years here I have watched you grow intellectual- ly, academically, physically and so- cially. Although you are a diverse class, in many ways you are a class together. I have admired the way you Vice Principal’s Message To the Class of 1989: As you and I leave these “hallowed halls” together, I am sure we share feelings of joy and sadness, relief and excitement, but above all, concern as to what the future holds for us. You face the rigors of college or the work- ing world, which are bound to be much more difficult and demanding than anything you have experienced to date. I look back on the many pleasures I have experienced here at Ipswich High, but also ahead to what I hope to be many years of a greater variety of pleasurable experiences. As we go our separate ways, I wish for all of us health and happiness, full and productive lives, and that once have been able to involve a large number of your classmates in your fund raising and social activities. This feeling of class togetherness will provide many pleasant memories as the years go by and you remember your days at IHS. It is my sincere hope that each of you will be able to feel that Ipswich High School has prepared you well for your adult life and your next ca- reer. Our nation needs citizens like you whose concerns go beyond their own comfort and who are willing to help their compatriots work to make our society one of racial and ethnic harmony, prosperity and justice for all. God bless you in all your endeavors. Stephen M. Fortado Principal in a while we stop to smell the roses. Good bye and good luck. Charles P. I become a transparent eye-ball; for one transient moment I am part and parcel of the English Department. The times that tried our souls flood my mind on the waves of the ever-changing edicts of the MLA Handbook. Have we really escaped the tenuous grasp of The Lively Art of Writing? Write Me a Ream? Et tu . . . D.E.W.? Wild Bill? Phyllis? Faust? Emerson? Bene- detto? As for me, give me liberty or give me death! My pace uncon- sciously quickens but one last ques- tion plagues me. Is ' this’ an adjective or a pronoun? An involuntary shud- der wracks me as I wonder if a col- lege version of Warriner’s has been erected to haunt us . . . Kathy Dougan William Laakso, Dept. Debra Faust Head Beverly Benedetto Dennis Winters Gerald Peterson 10 ART The Art Department Although Art is not a required sub- ject at Ipswich High School, classes are always full. You do not have to be a future Monet or Picasso to take these classes. Some students’ prior artistic experience consists of doo- dling on notebooks. When asked why they take these classes, some say it is because of the atmosphere in the art room, with its brightly colored beams, its intriguing sink (bathtub?), and the tone of Mrs. King’s voice. Naomi Cottrell The Music Department At Ipswich High School, we are for- tunate to have three excellent music teachers. Mr. Dolan, who teaches Music Theory, also directs both Con- cert and Jazz Band. Mrs. Cirrito di- rects the Bel Canto select choir. Mrs. Cayot directs the Concert Choir. All of these ensembles taught at Ipswich High School perform in seasonal con- certs as well as in parades, competi- tions, the Honors Assembly, Gradua- tion, and Class Day. To a few it’s commonplace, yet to many students each problem can be a harrowing experience. From Algebra word problems to Calculus theories, every step is a challenge that the student at Ipswich High School must brave through at one time or another. The Math Depart- ment has been the guiding light down the long, treacherous path to suc- cess. They have helped us over dan- gerous proofs, through dark func- tions, under low-hanging geometric shapes, and around dismal word problems. But just when equations were closing in and SohCahToa’s were everywhere, the Math Depart- ment pulled us out into the sunlight. Now that we have reached the end of the path, maybe, just maybe, someone will use his algebra to figure out how long it takes Sally Sue to ride her bike x miles east, 2x miles north and 5x+ 1 miles south of west of her home if she does all this on Monday morning at 7AM . . . Michele Vose Margaret Webber, Dept. Andrea Howes Dennis Lanpher Head Doris Fournier Judith Twombly 12 FOREIGN LANGUAGE - r The Foreign Language Department Foreign — Belonging to or concerned with another nation Language — Vocal symbols by means of which human beings interact and communicate Department — Separate division or branch, as in government organiza- tions, business, retail, stores, or schools According to The Scribner Bantam English Dictionary, that is the defini- tion of a foreign language depart- ment. But here at Ipswich High School, it is much more. The teach- ers have given students the opportu- nity to blossom, experiment, and ex- perience something different from math or science — a change from for- mulas and equations to accents and tones. French, Spanish, Russian, and Latin have been a much needed di- version from the core requirements at IHS. Although all of these teachers employ their own individual teaching methods, they are all working to- wards the same goal — to be the best educators any student could have. Keisha Anderson Richard Ladd, Dept. Karen Ferris Chuck Holman Shirley Brophy Head 13 SCIENCE The Science Department Passing through the IHS Science Department is an experience which transcends the ordinary limits of physics, slipping into the realm of metaphysics. As new converts in ba- sic biology, we were bombarded with a flurry of instructive packets. Clock- watching became our sole source of entertainment. During sophomore year, the witnessing of “awesome de- mos” mesmerized us. We learned a new way of worship in the chanting of the elements song, and were deemed “geeks” and “triple re- treads. Intuitively, as juniors we flocked to physics softball. Unfortu- nately, the earth’s gravitational force plucked Mr. Quigley from our midst. His replacement demonstrated sheer spiritual stamina and a strong hand as he brought an Eastern influence to our Western thought. We were thus reborn into Biology. Our biological bibles are bigger and better than any before as we continue our pilgrimage toward higher knowledge and greater spiritual awareness . . . Torie Hopkins (Lab Technician) BUSINESS AND LIBRARY The Business Department The Business Department pro- vides an exploratory experience for students going to college as well as providing entry level training for those going directly into the job mar- ket. Another aspect of the Business De- partment is the business club, Busi- ness Professionals of America, other- wise known as OEA. The business club has been at Ipswich since 1974 and provides an opportunity for stu- dents to test their business skills. Ev- ery spring, members of the business club enter a state and national con- test where they always perform ex- ceptionally well. This demonstrates the commitment of our business teachers, as well as the enthusiasm of the students. Jean Emerson Marianne Tozier Head 15 SOCIAL STUDIES The Social Studies Department The Ipswich High School Social Studies Department is creative, help- ful, and ener getic. Each member of the department adds a special touch to the environment and the curricu- lum of the school. Ron Toleos, our department head, was known for using some rather strange teaching techniques. Classes often found themselves outside chanting Indian spirituals or stum- bling blindly about on trust walks. Rick Storer, best known for West- ern Civilization, starts his class ev- eryday with a smile and a joke. Mr. Storer is also involved with many ac- tivities from the Leadership Project to the Ipswich High School track team. Our political science teacher, Ken Spellman, may teach CI.S. govern- ment by day, but he is also a football coach and student government advi- sor. For economic and foreign culture classes stop in Mr. Dembowski’s room. He conducts his class with hu- mor and concern for students. Jane Rotsko, with her enthusiasm for history, has taken the department by storm. She has generated fresh- men participation in the political pro- cess. It is obvious that the members of the Social Studies Department have a great amount of talent, experience, and enthusiasm. Nancy Emerson Amy Lovell ATHLETICS The Athletic Department The newly expanded Athletic De- partment at IHS consists of various opportunities for students to develop their athletic ability. To ensure safe- ty, the department has hired an ath- letic trainer to prevent and treat inju- ries. Gym teachers have emphasized fitness as well as specific sports. Health is also heavily stressed. To- gether these teachers are committed to teaching sports and fitness that can be useful throughout life. It dedicates itself to the development of leadership models and programs which are designed to enhance young people ' s lives. The project also hopes to reduce incidence of drug and alcohol abuse. This pro- gram believes that adolescents are very responsible and capable people who have a great impact on their community. One important goal is to create a more positive environment which can better address substance abuse and other issues. To Notice The Often Unnoticed; To Gear Up For Health And Project Adventure; And To Start Thinking About The Future. FRESHMEN As Freshmen we entered the crowded halls, on the first day of school, not knowing what to expect. We didn’t know if we would be stuffed into lockers or thrown into trashbar- rels. As the day progressed we soon forgot all our fears, because we were too busy trying to find our way around. Getting to class on time was almost impossible! One thing that made the girls forget their fears was the senior guys, who we drooled over hoping to talk to some- day. We also learned (extremely fast) that fresh- men aren’t supposed to take senior seats at lunch or assemblies. Another thing we learned pretty quick, was not to leave our lunches in our unlocked lockers. As the day ended, there were sighs of relief from the entire freshmen class, as well as miserable looks on some faces saying, “Do we have to come back?” Now we have finished our first year of High School. Already we have many memories. But, like it or not, we still have another three years to go. We wish everyone good luck and hope you have a blast because, “These are the best days of your lives!” (sound familiar?) by Heather Jensen Melissa Allen Richard Auclair Benjamin Baker Layton Blake Heather Briggs Amy Brogna Greg Brotherton Jessica Budd Janis Caccamise Callie Cameron Rachel Caram Shannon Carroll Shawn Cayer Josua Cole Justin Daly Nicole Davis Adriene DeSilva Mark Desmond Melissa Dillworth Carrie Dolman Michael Dolman Tracey Doyon 22 CLASS Officers President: Heather MacDougall Vice President: Jesse Wendt Secretary: Nicole Davis Treasurer: Katie Greenberg Ana Estrella Michael Fecteau Steven Fessenden Denis Foster Ross Fowler Timothy Galanis Kristine Gelinas John Gianakakis Mark Gillespie Heidi Graffum Nathan Gray Katie Greenberg Tyler Haley Amy Hetnar Patricia Hofstetter Jeffery Homans Michael George Huff Matthew Hyde Darron Jalbert Heather Jensen Sarah Joss Amber Kellow 23 FRESHMAN TIMES . . Though it is their first year at IHS, this year ' s freshmen have already made their mark on the school. The class itself ex- pects Jessica Budd, Callie Cameron, and Jessica Leonard to take an award by dat- ing V 2 of the senior class. They also feel that Callie Cameron, Ian Stephens and Tra- cy Doyon made their mark on the fashion scene of the high school by being voted the most fashion conscious people in the class of 92. According to the freshman class, most of the giggles in the 1st wing came from Nicole Davis, Katie Greenberg, Sarah Joss, Joe Doherty and Amber Kellow. Other noisy freshmen are the “metalheads”, par- ticularly Pat McMillan, Greg Brotherton, Nick Schneider, Amy Hetnar, Jay Vitale and Sean Willis. The one thing most freshmen are known for is being totally and completely “clue- less”- being late, dropping books, and al- ways ending up in the wrong places. The freshmen class felt that Jessica Budd, Jes- sica Leonard, Mike Fecteau, Adrienne De- Silva, Kathleen McDonnell, and Stephanie Poltack were the most “clueless” of all. Well, who be- lieves society? We have thought of a new and incredible game with rectangularly shaped objects. We call this the dump! Many of our so-called more mature dumpers dump bags for a hob- by. We also can’t forget the fair of Jamie Hull and Dan Cole can we? (a.k.a. Skuller and Digger) Our class officers have tried to take on the world like lions, though they end up more like mice. During the year we have had several activities such as selling broken ornaments, pleading with people to buy noisemakers at the Thanksgiving game, and collecting bot- tles and cans to be sent to our local brewery. Overall we’ve had a great year; maybe next year we can pick on freshmen instead of picking on those in our own class, but I doubt we’ll ever grow up! by Jen Dorman 28 Jeesica Abbott Mide Alexopoulos Emil Anestam Shannon Archibald Christine Arnold Kim Bailot Amanda Barney Kristen Bartniski Ruth Berry Tania Bishop Christopher Bocci Keith Bonarrigo Maura Carlin Robyn Chaisson Scott Chesley Laurie Chouinard Erin Cleary Daniel Cole Michelle Comeau Robert Comeau Jen Contino Laureen Cook Kirby Crestin Julianne DiCicco I CLASS Officers President: Julia DiCicco Vice President: Shannon Archibald Secretary: Jen Dorman Treasurer: Keith Bonarrigo Creed DeGregorio Julie DiPalma Jared Dietch Chandra Cruz Robert Dolman Jennifer Dorman Elissa Dorsky Craig Dupray Eric Elliott Tammee Finley Michelle Gallant Diantha Garry Sasha Gauthier Steven Gelsomini Kim Gogan Brian Gormley Dawn Greenhalgh Jonathan Gurrie Tammy Hauenstein Dawn Higgins Robert Howlett Michael Huff Jamie Hull Benjamin Hurd SOPHOMORE TIMES . After less than two years in the high school, Sophomores cannot be expected to know ev- erything. They have proven, for one, that they don’t understand the word generic” by voting such individuals as Heidi Porter, Law- rence White, and Bob McNeil as most generic. A real Sophomore trait, however is bag- dumping. Some of the leading dumpers awarded “Class Bagdumpers” are: Mike Alex- opoulous, Chris Bocci and Rob Dolman. The Sophomore Class also voted Nathan Wright, Perri Mertins, Julie DiPalma and Julie diCiccio as those most likely to end up in a straight jacket. Most sarcastic sophomores (those that use normal sarcasm and not jun- iorese) are Kristen Bartninski, Robbyn Chais- son, Keith Bonarrigo, Jamie Hull and Chris- tine Arnold. Yet another typically sophomore trait is skateboarding and snowboarding. Voted by their class most likely to flip out in a snow- boarding accident were Todd Perkins, Keith Bonarrigo, and Ben Hurd. Juniors know who they are, and who everyone else is. They know for instance, that Joe McLaughlin is by far the most likely per- son in the class to wreck five cars before graduation, with four times as many votes as any other candidates in his category. They also feel that Lee Prentis, Sarah Mc- Dowell and DiDi Levesque would wreck, oh-maybe a couple. The Juniors also feel that Mark Gahm and Matthew Salah are both very likely to own a computer company. Runners up were Amy Lovell, Paul Rogers and Mike Zagray. On the reverse, those voted “Most likely to remain in town” were Tammy Smith, Marci Dupray, and Dawn Carey. There were a few suprise votes in this category, though, for a few people who will be out like a shot after graduation. Overwhelmingly voted most bizarre where the “G.O.-The Generic Offense” — otherwise known as Dan Foley, Jeff Carter, and Mike Zagray. Jenn Pignato picked up enough votes from being a “Lick Sister” to take second, and Ed Matt took third. An- other “Lick Sister”, Andrea Drown, was next, and Gabrielle Foote and Luke Macor- elle picked up a lot of votes together. The main characteristic of the Junior Class however, is the new sarcastic lan- guage created by the Sarcasm Queen Her- self — Julie Caeca- mise. Good Citizen Award It’s 7:30 a.m., Friday morning and Art History is the first block of the day. Dan Walker “opens” the artroom, struggling with portfolio in hand. Naomi and Anne enter. Simultaneously the three students take off their jackets, and laugh; they have tried to outdo each other in the most revolting “arty” fashions. Mrs. King enters. “Mrs. King wins.” exclaims Anne, “And I thought “all black” would take the cake.” At 7:42 the class slowly commences. “Monica needs help with the yearbook today!” announces Mrs. King. “We’ve got a deadline today!” “Does that mean we can’t watch the PBS film on Caravaggio today?” inquires Ellen. Dan stands to protest (as usual), “I don’t think we should be corrupted by that playboy Caravaggio, anyway, Mrs. KinGE!” The argument begins. “Swinger” Dave struts in late, tye-dye on, coffee in hand. “Take it easy Mrs. King, I think it’s about time for another one of your moon-viewing parties.” Mrs. King sighs, “Where’s Jon?” “I think he’s in the other room! smiles Elizabeth, another helpful hint form Miss Pauley. Mrs. King proceeds to the other room. John is asleep at “his drawing table, “Jon!” Mrs. King flares. John turns his head and opens his eyes to find himself face-down to yet another “Tribute to Norman” painting. Mrs. King cries, “These after hour painting sessions have got to stop.” Monica arrives, late again, and begins passing out lay-out sheets, “Make sure you crop the pictures!”, she says. Everyone gets to work except Kieth, who’s standing at the door, with his hands in his pockets saying, “Howdy!”, or “Have a nice day!”, to passers-by. “Monica,” Mrs. King says to Naomi, “Have you finished those block prints yet?” Naomi would have acknowledged Mrs. King normally, but today her mind was on something else: the Shelf Wars. “Mrs. King, do you have a screwdriver I can borrow?” Anne asks innocently. The bell rings, the students file out. Mrs. King leans back in her chair, Cafe Vienna in hand, “Now I know why I never had kids,” she says, and laughs . Let the games begin. 66 67 To be a skipping stone to shoot forward from some warm hand to touch the water pop up again dip downwards and leap up again and again finally slipping into glorious, watery stillness leaving a long row of spreading circles for the thrower to gaze in awe at loved until he finds another stone Argue for your limitations, and sure enough, they ' re yours. Favorite Actress Was it the exposure of her chest in Dangerous Liasons or her obsessive be- havior in Fatal Attraction? Well, what- ever it was, Glenn Close took first for best actress. Sigorney Weaver was a close second. Favorite Actor Well once again, Tom Cruise took this category, what is it now, four years in a row? Come on girls, lets get some originality. Dustin Hoffman took sec- ond for his role in Rainman and Keifer Sutherland took third. | We may be merely high school students, but we still seem to appreciate thirtysometh- ing, with its deep and intense plots, although it has to be thought about while watching it, it still took first for favorite T.V. sitcom. On the lighter side, Cheers took second and LA Law took third. Favorite TV Sitcom Favorite Band The ever popular CI2 was voted as the favorite band in our poll, as well as most of the other polls in the United States at this time, not bad for Irishmen. Def Leppard was voted second in this category. 94 Favorite M ale Female Performer Phil Collins, the singer, drummer and actor got the number one spot for the fa- vorite male perform- er. It was a three way tie for second be- tween Pat Metheny, Ziggy Marley and of course, Sting. Anita Baker, with her tree shattering voice, ha ha, took first for the favorite female performer. Tied for second was Sheena Easton and Sinead O’Conner, who was so excited about winning, lost her hair. Favorite Concert INXS won by a land- slide for the best con- cert, let me guess, Great Woods, August 1988? Some others which were way behind were Def Leppard and Pink Floyd. Favorite Song: Well, it was an interesting five way tie for first in this category. The winners were Pour Some Sugar on Me, Hold on Loosely, She Wants to Dance With Me, Shattered and Un- der My Thumb. I: Favorite Drink Coca-cola or Coke took first place for the best drink once again, come on guys, lets get some new ideas! Iced tea took second. These actually weren’t the winners, but the real winners could not be tallied. Favorite Food Yes the winner for the best food was pizza, what else is new? Tied for second were popcorn and Smart- food, although they are the same in a sense, others just think that popcorn just does not compare to Smartfood. Best Cliche For Best Cliche Yesss took it, but follow- ing close behind was the trite cheerleader term C-ya, and don’t forget the hand gesture to make it perfect. Worst Cliche Guess what? We’ve tried to approach both hard news stories as well as human inter- est features. The Tiger Transcript is the result of many long hours of hard work by the editors, reporters and advisor B. Scott Hersey. For the re- porters, it meant taking on assign- ments, writing good stories and usu- ally meeting deadlines. For the editors, it meant chasing down re- porters, meeting every Sunday and coping with alot of stress. We think it was worth it and we hope you were proud of your paper. Thank you to all who contributed. Good luck next year. by Elizabeth Pauley ART CLUB The Art Club is an after school open studio time. To the infinite embarrassment of six nameless girls and the amuse- ment of the rest of the school, these words echoed through the halls of Ipswich High School before our first Chameleon entry deadline on Octo- ber 7. Chameleon class members, however, do a lot more than sing. We write poems and short stories, and are embarrased once more by having to read them out loud in front of fel- low class mates. We are also respon- sible for all aspects of the magazine. We produce — writing at least two es- says, typing, doing layout, and send- ing corny but well meaning accep- tance and rejection slips. The Chameleon has been quite an experience. TIGER TALES Tiger Tales is an in-school newspa- per produced by Mr. Laakso’s Jour- nalism class. Its staff of reporters probes Ipswich High to get the hard- hitting stories that the entire school and town enjoys reading. The staff is also well trained in handling editor Shawn Hatcher’s high stress and hy- pertension. If Shawn doesn’t have a nervous breakdown, at least three spectacular issues of Tiger Tales will be published this year. by Adam Gray L to R, T to B: B. Irvine, M. Stasiuk, T. Standley, K. It is a unique and challenging course, taught by Mrs. Faust, that focuses on speaking rather than grammar or literature. The course is designed to help students develop and perform effective speeches for audiences of all sizes. Students write speeches and analyze the most effective ways of presenting them. A major required assignment is to do a speaking per- formance in front of a large audience. One of the two speech classes per- formed in the school play, “WORK- ING”, to fulfill this assignment. Most of the class had no experience in this kind of assignment and discovered hidden talents they never knew they possessed. Speech class is a course in which every student should take part in because it helps to develop qualities that will be needed outside the pastel colored halls of Ipswich High School. by Shane Hughes KEY CLUB The Ipswich High School Key Club is a non-profit organization estab- lished to help better our community- international, national, state, local and school. The Key Club was start- ed two years ago by a student and with the help of the Ipswich Kiwanis Club, it has thrived. The Key Club has helped in such problems as feed- ing the hungry, helping the needy, sponsoring a Guatemalan child, do- nating to Ipswich Caring, funding a Halloween party for the children of Ipswich, and stocking our lovely high school fish tank that brigtens the foy- er, with fish. by Michele Vose 115 NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY The National Honor Society awards recognition for students who reflect outstanding accomplishments in academics, character, leadership, and service. Members are obligated to exhibit behavior that is honorable, responsible and generous. Our Honor Society chapter provides individual members the oppurtunity to share their talents with other students, their school, and their community. REGIONAL ADVISORY BOARD The Regional Advisory Board is a group of students from schools in the Northeast region of Massachusetts who get together to discuss regional issues and the rights of students within the schools. All of the repre- sentatives from schools in each re- gion meet once a month where issues affecting students statewide are dis- cussed, as well as controversial is- sues within the individual schools. At Ipswich High School, this year’s two representatives are junior Susan Mi- kel and senior Amy Player. L. to R.: A. Player, S. Mikel 116 H L to R, T to B: S. Hughes, M. Gahm, J. Caccamise, C. The purpose of this group is to represent the student body on student related issues. The most prominent issue the student government has dealt with this year has been the controversial honor roll system. The handling of the honor roll issue, as well as other projects planned in the future to im- prove the quality of the high school, has made this years Student Govern- ment a success. by Shane Hughes mm-z ■ [ j Mjk L fp fp M m ft ♦ l j 1 BB f ySj f 3 to R, T to B: J. We were strong, fast and aggres- sive, but our strength lay in our togetherness and our ability to work as one. On that tournament day at Wilmington, our fleet foot- ed team clawed its way to the final stroke-off round. We sunk our cleats into murky mud and used all of our Tiger might; but no one could explain our feelings on the closing of our season better than Gretch en Storer did as we boarded the bus after our defeat, “I love you guys and I’m proud to have been a member of this team.” That is what our team was all about and each and everyone of us knew it as the tears began to roll down our faces .... -Good luck next season! - The Class of ’89 140 - Sports Football Varsity MVP: Bill Mello Coaches Award: Jason Kowal Unsung Hero: Jason Kercher Junior Varsity MVP: Mike Zagray Coaches Award: Steve Gelsomini Freshmen MVP: Jay Vitale Coaches Award: Justin Daly Boys Soccer Varsity MVP: Brian Townsend Coaches Award: Chris Gram Unsung Hero: Shane Hughes Junior Varsity MVP: Joshua Nove Coaches Award: George Huff Cross Country MVP: Jeff Ingalls Coaches Award: Jeremy Keller Unsung Hero: Ross Young Field Hockey Varsity MVP: Julie Crawford Coaches Award: Naomi Cottrell Unsung Hero: Jennifer Fecteau Junior Varsity MVP: Nathan Wright Coaches Award: Christine Arnold Freshmen MVP: Heather MacDougall Coaches Award: Jessica Leonard Girls Soccer Varsity MVP: Amanda Bodwell Coaches Award: Kristen Murray Unsung Hero: Rebecca Dube Junior Varsity: MVP: Andrea Putur Coaches Award: Amy Brogna Cheerleading MVP: Kathleen Kenney Coaches Award: Erin Doherty Unsung Hero: Jessica Abbott FALL SPORTS BANQUET INDOOR TRACK 142 i 9 L J i t , §1 ' rnlwrk V9 L. to R., T. to B.
