HA TC OFF TO A GFBA T YEAH! Ik Dedicaftm Tv ARTHUR M. CARRY Gorro Hove A D.Q. Blizzard! . . . Oops! . . . I Forgor My Diet! Since 1965, Arrhur Carey has spread his warmrh and smiles Throughout Ips- wich High School as a social studies teacher and a coach. He was the assistant football coach until 1981 Si- multaneously, he introduced lacrosse and served as its head coach. He held the position of Social Studies Depart- ment Head ond then he became Athletic Director, a position he has held until his anticipated retirement this year Mr Carey has been a guid- ing light to many students who will always remember his inspiration ond encouragement. For rhis we thank him, the loveable teddy bear ' ' of I.H.S.. Veil miss you A C You ' re the GREATEST Love, The Class Of 1988 THE TIGER , The har is a rool rhar we use for expressing ourselves and our personaliries. There are many kinds of hors jusr os rhere ore people. Some hors are worn for cosrumes, for uniforms, for fashion, for warmrh or for jusr sheer pleasure. Even Though we have all worn hars for so many differenr reasons, srill we hove oil shared o common roor. In rhe posr four years we ' ve walked Through The same doors, Traced rhe same sreps and srruggled Through many hard rimes. Once again our parhs have crossed and we ' ve achieved our primary goal leading us down rhe road ro success. Before we proceed ro rhe bigger and berrer Things in life, ir ' s always special to look upon our pasr four years ar Ips- wich High School. Ler ' s rake off our hars and reflecr upon rhe memories rhar will always be foremosr in our minds. Always remember rhe good, learn from rhe bad and conrinue rhe grear rimes rhar we ' ve ail had. Hars off ro rhe class of 1988! Krisrin Price Theme TABLE OF CONTENTS TO 1988 A ADVERTISEMENTS ' 88 OUR C Our Cidij M X ■ a ;( % jfg , P- ' jMf JKfm ■ SENIORS Senior (sen-yer) 1. Superior in dignify, rank or office. 2. To rhe final years of rhe course of american colleges, high schools ere.. 3. Seniority. As we strolled through rhe first wing doors on rhe lasr first day of school, we seniors shored a feeling of confidence and excitement bur overall . . . superiority. Some of us even felt a few inches toller. When did we become seniors? Was it when we were assigned our lockers in the senior wing? Was it when we threw our first (bur definitely nor our last) seniors only party? Or how about when we found ourselves debating current issues in Poli. Sci. instead of frivolous bickering among each other. We oil hod our preconceived ideas about when one become a senior and what a senior really was. But one thing was sure: we oil hod responsibility lingering over our heads. We all achieved this dignified status of high school responsibility at some point in rime, whether it was our lasr first semester or our lasr lost day of school. Despite oil rhe headaches from college applications and essays, rhe worries of what we were going to do after we graduate or the fear of entering rhe world beyond this sanctuary , we, rhe class of nineteen eighty-eight hove succeeded in making our senior year one of rhe best years of our lives. As this year progressed, we become more and more aware that this was, for many of us, the end of twelve years together. Next year when we have gone our separate ways, we should remember and cherish all rhe wild and woolly rimes we ' ve spent together, even the dullest of moments. Now as we close rhe doors to these very special years, let us open rhe doors to o healthy and prosperous future. Hots off to rhe Class of 1988! Ir ' s nor meant ro be degrading, only ro distinguish between rhe seniors and, well, . . . . everyone else. (You see, ro a senior, nothing else seems ro matter!) Underclassmen usually can be sported doing certain duties they must traditionally perform during rhe day. They ore most likely seen carrying those heavy field hockey nets or strenuously lugging a loaded bookbag which happens ro contain rhe entire contents of their locker Underclassmen are also recognized when dutifully throwing away trash in rhe Cafe Del Tigre” This trash probably does nor belong ro them. They can also be found cautiously maneuvering along rhe outer perimeters of rhe corridor. One may notice that commands are usually pur upon unsuspecting underclassmen, most likely freshmen, by seniors on power trips. Once in a while one may hear an underclassman pretending ro be a senior. This confident sophomore will probably say ro rhe freshman, Move It! Thar ' s o.k., for that daring sophomore is only practicing ro be rhe perfect senior. The real trouble comes when an upperclassman finds our about this premature senior! So goes rhe trials and tribulations of underclassmen. The underclassman syndrome” is something that every student goes through, if they survive Ir ' s a period of real growing up. A trial period for rhe final experiment - - - entrance ro rhe real world It is crossing that long, narrow bridge, closely surrounded by very deep water All this with one goal in mind — ro achieve senior status. I thought Key Club was tonight. They oil ore? ??!. Typical? For most of us students, . . . yes! We ' ve oil discovered that there just aren ' t enough hours in the day, or days in the week to fulfill the activities to which we ' ve committed ourselves. With oil our interests and ambitions, we ' ve mode things happen, bur most importantly, we ' ve gotten things done. In doing so we hove learned a great deal about friendship, leadership, relationships and oil the other . . . ships. We try to get involved in as many activities os possible. We ' ve established sportsmanship, met new friends and overall, broadened our school year. With oil the student activities, we tend to over extend and spread ourselves too thin. All in oil though, we probably wouldn ' t trade our busy schedules for a life of sleep and television; (well, maybe sleep!) The numerous contributions to our health ore invaluable. Yet, the significance of sports goes beyond the physical attributes,- equally important attributes do exist. Sports serve os a unifying element, bringing different types of people together to work towards a common goal. Through sports, we broaden our friendships, learning that restricting our friendliness to only a few people is damaging to the team. We experience healthy competition, allowing us to rest our abilities against the abilities of others. We learn what it takes to win, and by the some token, we learn what it means to lose. In sports, and in life os well, our main objective is to succeed. We learn that success only is achieved through hard work and determination. However, sometimes our search for success comes up short, thus leading to our confrontations with defeat. We are taught to realize why we are defeated, to be aware of the mistakes that led to defeat, and to avoid making the same mistakes in the future. Most importantly, we learn about ourselves. We leorn just how for we are able to push ourselves ond just how much we are willing to endure in order to attain success. Sports reach us to give oil that we are able to give os we learn from our coaches that, there is nothing wrong with always trying to give 100% of yourself in anything that you do . . . In essence, sports are on extension of the classroom. All that we learn from our participation in sports can be applied to situations we may encounter later in life. These assets that sports provide us with now ore assets that will be undoubtedly useful in the future.
