Text from Pages 1 - 188 of the 1977 volume:

DEDICATION Seldom in life do the people who deserve credit actually get it. We hope to remedy that situ- ation a little here by thanking a group of people who have done a lot for us during the past four years. These people have given us moral support in all our endeavours, and this support has been particularly helpful during our high school experience. High school is a chunk of life which is at times exhilarating, at others terrifying; it is both pleasurable and painful. In es- sence, it is a growing-up period, and these people helped us through it. In so doing they paved the way for our future. We will always be grateful to them, and loving toward them also, be- cause this group of people is our wonderful parents. ;■ A Looking back down the long hall I will remember What you were to me, and I to you. I won’t forget the friends I knew. The years will pass. Time marches ever on. A sunset will be faded In the newness of a dawn. Yet I will remember you. Who I knew so well. And we will see together Whether time will tell. Aidan Lloyd BEGJCBCjE % ' .5 ' 1 ■ . r. |B |t|k|SB t . .. . 5 ' ,; ' -;-- ■M vi ' ■■ ■ ■ . : !’!.■- : ::f .r. . FIELD HOCKEY The Varsity Field Hockey team, coached by Miss Linda San- toro, had an overall record of W-12, L-3, T-2. The team was 3rd in the CAL and Semi Finalist in the State Tournament. Kathy Paganis was a CAL All League Player, and the co-cap- tains Tammy Murawski and Anne Richards were All State Players. TheJ. V. Field Hockey team, coached by Mrs. O ' Brien, had a League record of W-7, L-0, T-5. The first place finish in the CAL standings is attri- buted to an entire team effort, long hours of drills, coupled with an insatiable desire to play and surpress mediocrity. Most Valuable Offensive — Mary Ogiba Most Valuable Defensive — Lisa Crocetti Most Improved Player — Kathy Gavin Honorable Mention — Dorothy Surette VARSITY FOOTBALL The biggest letdown to the powerful Varsity squad this year was the Newburyport game. But as a whole the ' 76 season was a successful one and the seniors have a good year to look back on. The CAL Record 8-2. J.V. FOOTBALL W-7, L-1. The J.V. ' s played Pentucket in the last game of the season for the Cape Ann League title and . . . WON! 18 to 16.” CAL Record 2-8-4 MostValuabe Player— Kevin Casali Coaches Award — Jon Leamy Most Improved Player — Don Bowen 1977 Captains— Jon Leamy, John Hopping All-League goalkeeper — Kevin Casali All-Star Halfback — Mark Jacobson VARSITY SOCCER The J. V. soccer team had a very satisfying season. The team record was four ties and four losses, with two of the losses by only one goal. Everyone worked very hard, and showed great enthusiasm. I enjoyed coaching very much because of everyone ' s positive attitude and hard work makes the future of soccer seem very bright. Coach Sullivan Boys X-Country was coached by Mr. Ron Toleos and had a CAL Record of 4-9. The team had an exciting season. It was the best record in 8 years. This year ' s success is attributed to the seniors. BOYS’ CROSS COUNTRY GIRLS’ CROSS COUNTRY It ' s a good thing Jessie Bucklin was around to cheer the girls up this year! Her humor kept the girls ' hopes and spirits up. Jessie and Laurel leave behind a fine per- sonal record, and the sophomores, freshmen, and 7th and 8th graders coming up are sure to make an im- provement in the record. CAL Record 1-8-0 Running is much a question of will, strength and dedication: people like Tom Gerrish, Kevin McElhinney, Scott Freeman, Jim Davis and, last but always first, the super Rich Mastrangelo leave, having pulled Ipswich X- Country out of the cellar and into the middle floors. VARSITY BASKETBALL We hope well always shine as 1 in Ipswich eyes. Hard work is the only way to gain the position. It ' s a young, aggressive, hungry squad that has the potential to win all the marbles this year. In the next year or two they should form the nucleus of a CAL Varsity Championship. IB r x 1 J 11 1 GIRLS’ VARSITY BASKETBALL The beginning of the 1976-77 season was accompanied with much apprehension. We had to replace three C.A.L. All Stars from an undefeated team. Therefore, a youth movement took place. The gamble paid off. The ’ ' neophytes” complemented our two All- Scholastics, Ellen Galanis and Kathy Paganis, very well. The beginning was a little rough around the edges due to timing, inexperience and apprehension, but Nancy Campus, Jayne Beni- rowski and Dorothy Fenton performed admirably and exhibited our IPSWICH PRIDE. At this writing we are in quest of our second consecutive C. A. L. Eastern division title. We also hope to gain that C. A. L. Cham- pionship which, literally, slipped through our fingers last year. We have qualified for the State Tournament and will bring OUR TEAM (YOUNC and OLD) to victory. From a coaching standpoint it has been a very rewarding year to see the veterans paving the way for the players of the future, who will exhibit good sportsmanship, a winning tradition, and most of all PRIDE. J.V. GIRLS’ BASKETBALL 9 N Kjrol ' H K w ■ ■rws Hj v m o J VARSITY HOCKEY The strength of the hockey team this year was keeping a positive attitude throughout the sea- son. Our record (4-11) does not show the great dedication and effort displayed throughout the season. With only 3 seniors being lost this year, the team will be in good shape for the ’77-’78 season. The nucleus of the team is in this year ' s junior class, including Captain Stan Appleton and assistant, Paul Lees. fl ■ 1 ,.iY A very talented group of incoming freshmen made up the nucleus of the J. V. team this year They have gained experience and are sure to produce a competitive team next year, pro- vided they are not lost to the varsity. There were few sophomores on the team, and basic- ally the team was inexperienced in play at the high school level. A pwl Haa VARSITY WRESTLING J.V.
