To the Present I am hope, To the Future, destiny. A hundred thousand footsteps Have echoed in my halls, And for every step a memory Is held within my walls. The tears and shouts that sound here The hopes and dreams that grew, Are written in my very bricks And I show them now to you. So welcome, world, to Iowa Western, Come walk a while and see The story of the students Who spent two years with me. Candy Smith Gil -L-. This year the sorority had various projects to keep them busy. Even though a small organization of only twen- ty girls, everyone was able to strengthen and renew friendships and to give every girl memories she can never relive but always remember. .fy Sue Giltner, Vice-Presidentg Marcia Morrison, Presidentg Sue Gammel, Publicity Chairmang Mirandi Frederickson, Sec-Trea- surer. E SOCIAL SCIENCE CLUB The Social Science Club, presided over by Ernie Tomlinson and sponsored by Donald Reed has attempted to make the students of I.W.C.C. aware of the attitudes and ideas of our vastly changing world. 5. The meetings, held twice monthly, at the Branding Iron, have been convenient sources of information concerning various sub- jects of interest. Every student has the opportunity to acquaint himself with the faculty and with such problems as mental illness, international relations, and the student voice in school admin- istration. The Social Science Club also offers a mode for relaxation and fellowship which was exemplified in the Hootenanny held at the beginning of the year. An excellent talk was presented by David Sonaike and Jim Amdor, a former Peace Corp worker on Nigeria. ggjaqxwis f. ag l f'5N it if A, tflfffk 5 -X U vi' 1 V Ivy- ,T ix xg ' , 'fktfgff . csv. , if Xfxyt 'XY . ,ef , v.. s ' ' 'Q-YCi L.,f:,-sffa Z' , Ernie Tomlinson, Presidentg Lowell Herzberg, Mr. Reed, Steve Olson, Norm Miller, Judy Stevens, Candy Smith, Beth Hanson, Ruth Gregory, Rachel Smith fNot Shownj. The basketball season ended with Iowa Western having compiled an overall re- cord 25-9g a third place finish in the Iowa Junior College Conference and second place in the Region 11 tournament at Oskaloosa. The big reason for a most successful season was the individual efforts of all with most returning lettermen showing improvement and also an excellent group of freshmen. The Jay's chose Henry Smith and Mike Newman as co-captains. Henry was chosen the most valuable player as he led the team in scoring with 700 points and a 20.5 average. He also set a new two-year scoring record of 1374, Mike, although not the scoring threat of Smith, was tremendously improved over his freshman year and contributed heavily to the team's success through numerous assists and clutch baskets.
