A Iob for Many The .Morrill Land Grant Act served as the basis for founding Iowa State College and clearly described its mission. It said, in part, In order to promote the liberal and practical education of the industrial classes in the several pursuits and professions of life. This is the major resfmnsibility of the administration. Another is the responsibility for more than 9,ooo students and a multitude of faculty and stag. A gigantic job ably handled under the direction of President james H. Hilton with the assistance of Provost james H. Jensen, Registrar Arthur M. Gowan, Director of Student AHdiTS Millard R. Kratochvil and every member of the staff, faculty and student body. The resjaonsibility grows each year as the college grows. Iowa State has expanded beyond the wildest dreams of its founders.
