Calendar SEPTEMBER 4-The students came to school and classes 14-- 27 1- 3.. 5 began the next day. Seniors were glad to begin to have sen- ior privileges. The Seniors had a meeting to make plans for their annual. OCTOBER Luncheon was served to members of the Legislature and Interim committees. Seniors had a surprise birthday party for Norma Prine. -The football players and some of the seniors went to the Illinois School for the Deaf. 1'-Friday afternoon all classes were dis- missed because of a football game with Kuemper of Carroll. 17-The pupils had their first roller skating w w 24 31 party at the Manawa rink. -A bonfire for the Kansas School for the Deaf was held on the athletic field. -Norma Prine was crowned queen. -The Seniors had a meeting to discuss the class book, motto and color of gOVL'I'lS. -The boys and girls had a Halloween party. NOVEMBER 7-General Faculty meeting. Mr. Walsh of 8 the finance committee gave a speech on the legislative askings. -The Y.M.L.S. had their first meeting with Mr. Giangreco. 14-Senior meeting. Plans made on year- Zl 29 book and other matters. --lohn Gannon went to Chicago, Illinois, to show the cattle. -Y.M.I. S. meetings. DECEMBER 7-Another roller skating party at the Man- I0- awa rink. Gallaudet Day. A program about Thom- as H. Gallaudet was given. He was honored for all the work he did in help- ing the deaf. 16-Mr. and Mrs. Giangreco had the Sen- iors for their Annual Christmas party. I9-Y.M.I..S, and Y-teens had a Christmas Zl meeting. Marlene Hestness demon- strated how to wrap gifts. -Christmas Vacation began. Everyone was happy to head home. JANUARY 6--The boys and girls returned to school. 7-Classes resumed. juniors received class of '58 rings. IU-Senior meeting. Work began to pro- gress on the annual. -Seniors began having graduation pic- tures taken. -The Seniors enjoyed a trip to the City Water Purification plant. FEBRUARY 14-Valentine Party. 18-General Faculty meeting. 20-The pupils had a roller skating party at Manawa rink. -Four seniors, QMarion Van Manen, John Gannon, Norma Prine, and Shirley Mc- Lelandj took part in the Mardi Gras. MARCH 6-Senior meeting. 9-The basketball girl players went to Des Moines, Iowa, to watch the girls' state tournament. 15-The boys and girls had a St. Patrick's Day party. 19-Dr. George Detmold QDean of Gallau- det Collegej visited our school and talked to the teachers and students. Den- nis Wernimont received a certificate of merit from WOW-TV for being one of the outstanding basketball players of Southwest Iowa. - -Seven basketball players, two managers, Mr. and Mrs. Huston, and Mr. and Mrs. Giangreco went to the' Spare Time cafe in Omaha for dinner. 23-Eighteen basketball p l a y e r s , Mr. Weaver, Mr. Huston and Mr. Berg went to Des Moines to watch the final state tournament basketball games. 24-Dennis Wernimont appeared on KMTV to receive a citation for being one of the outstanding basketball players of Southwest Iowa. -Some seniors went to Omaha to Watch the Ice Capades. 27-Athletic Award Banquet, Mr. Fred Hawks, sportswriter, main speaker. APRIL -through to 21, Easter Vacation. 29-All boys and girls went to Omaha to H watch the circus. MAY nd 3-Some of the seniors took the Gal- laudet College examination. 3-The Senior and junior Banquet. 8-General Faculty meeting. 24-Field Day. JUNE 2-Baccalaurcat Day. 'i-Graduation Day. -Summer Vacation begins.
