In Pursuit of an Elusive Dream . . . Unicorns and Rainbows I hr Unicom has been pursued for centuries — an elusive creature valued for its charm and magic. The Unicom is elusive, as dreams are elusive. Dreams and I nicorns must remain in the realm of one’s imagination. Just when one thinks he has captured the Unicom, it escapes. And so it is with our dreams. When a dream comes true — it is no longer a dream, only cold reality. A rainbow is a promise — a promise as elusive as the pot of gold that may exist at its end. Search my friend! Have faith! Never surrender your belief in unicorns and rainbows, for without a dream and a promise your life will become meaningless and unfulfilled. Jrf- “The Unicorn has kept its elusive magic and charm through the centuries.” Josephine Bradley the Unicorn People were intrigued by the idea of a Unicorn and readily accepted its existence. A Greek writer, Megasthenes, told of a one-horned animal he refer- red to as a unicorn which he learned about from Buddhist monks. “There was apparently a similar beast in China as early as 2500 B.C. This animal known as Ch’t-iin lived to the age oi 1000 and possessed a very musieal voiee quite different from the braying of its European counterpart. Its cry was like the sound of bolls. Its skin, moreover, could create radiant beams of the fire sacred colors: red, yellow, blue, white, and black. Or was it a creature ot gentleness and solitude pretending to wander at will in remote mountain pastures? When we reach the middle ages we find the unicorn at the height of its popularity. The unicorn, con- versely, took up per- manent residence in the realm of the imagination. 8 What happened to the Unicorn after the Garden of Eden is a matter of conjecture. “I From the earliest days, it had been connected with the idea oi strength and virility and even a certain arrogance. At the same time however, it had often embodied gentleness and a desire for solitude, preferring to wander at will in remote moun- tain pastures. IDVEire UNE PRODEO WITH THIS IS TALENT?? Cherish friendship in your breast New is good but old is best Make new friends but keep the old Those are silver, these are gold. Joseph Pavry Carl King Born — February 11, 1926 Died — December 12, 1982 19 I will reach up alone without fear into the night and follow in the footsteps of the unicorn ... I will see the moon’s secret face and lose myself in the loneliness of the stars. 20 In Pursuit Elusive Dreams SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS President: Robbie Hausler Vice-President: Ray Boutwell Secretary: Susie Cameron Treasurer: Darla Flick Sponsor: Susan Biddy Arthur Bajo Alambar Brant Baugh Nancy Black Jody Bennett Brosseau Stephanie Ray Boutwell Tracy Bryant Susie Cameron Jimmy Byrne Cavinder Clay Cargal Cosstick Sherrie Jackie Compton Treasa Cummings Davis Raina June Dietrichson Nancy Frazier Lynn Fulfer Chuck Gilstrap 25 Vonnie Julie Guyton James Hannah Hausler John Henderson Henderson Henderson Shawnee Henderson Hildebrand Sylvia Hill Carmen Howard Wayne Hodges Pam Horton Frank Johnson Jackson Garin Ben Inglish Harlan Kevin King Kara Johnson Lewis Diana Lyons 28 Donna Lunsford Andy Shawn Pelzer i Brandon Mills Laura Meador Wayne Nicholson Ricky Moss Parker Ronald Pappas Afton Pike Teri Oswald Kevin Robnett Russell Doris Seigler Shierry Sargent :« Danny Sidlauskas Steven Shown Aimi Sitgreaves Steve Stewart Richard Smith David Strayhorn Tim Stewart Thomason Debbie Laurie Tatom Terri Thompson Marcelle Todd Wallace Johna Weaver Weaver Watson Rhonda Wheeler David White Wells SENI0R GLASS I Cliff Worrell Anita Wright Sheila Wilkerson Beth Wood Lisa Yeakley Chris York Lives of great men all remind us We can make our lives sublime And, departing, leave behind us Footprints on the sands of time. 33 SENIOR INDEX Alambar. Unicorns and Rainbows The Unicorn has been pursued for centuries — an elusive creature valued for its charm and magic. The Unicorn is elusive, as dreams are elusive. Dreams and I nicoms must remain in the realm of one’s imagination. Just when one thinks he has captured the Unicorn, it escapes. And so it is with our dreams. hen a dream comes true — it is no longer a dream, only cold reality. A rainbow is a promise — a promise as elusive as the pot of gold that may exist at its end. Search my friend! Have faith! Never surrender your belief in unicorns and rainbows, for without a dream and a promise your life will become meaningless and unfulfilled. The Editor A
