They split with two Ft. Worth teams, taking a 35-0 victory over Ft. Worth Trimble Tech and a heartbreaking 39-21 loss to Ft. Worth Northside on Homecoming night. The Hawks finished 3-2 in dis- trict and a third place finish behind Hirschi and Vernon. District hopes were still alive until the next-to-last game against 5th ranked Hirschi when an interception and a fumble led to the only Huskie scores and a 14-0 loss for the Mean Green. Revenge was the ultimate goal as the Hawks shut down the Burk Bulldogs 18-0, after a 14-7 loss earlier in the season to Burk. It snapped a five-game losing streak dating back to 1974. The Hawks placed juniors Steve Smith and Steve Page on First Team All- District and senior guard Ken Thomason on the Honorable mention team. On March 6, 1981, the Hawks defeated the Ver- non Lions 63-54 at the Rider Fieldhouse. It marked the first time since 1956 that the Hawks have won the coveted golden ball.
