The Pep Squad paints signs to help boost spirit at pep rallies; the Band performs their contest show, which earned them a Division I at U.I.L. Underclassmen pictures are taken; vocational students prepare projects for contest. is December means concerts, Christmas parties, basketball season, FFA filling orders for oranges and grapefruit and Mrs. Dearen wishing everyone a Merry Christmas. 17 The new year begins with snow . . . and continues with more snow. The schedule of practice and games for six basketball teams in one gym is hectic. Voca- tional teachers spend many hours assisting their stu- dents in developing and improving their skills. The second annual Hawk Leadership Day. sponsored by the student council, is a successful project. 19 MARCH-APRIL The months of March and April herald the begin- ning of spring . . . and many school activities. These events included the beginning of the spring sports season, the Horticulture plant sale. Senior Prom, and the one act play, The Imaginary Invalid. The Building Trades class completed the house on Texas Street and Home and Family Living classes put fin- ishing touches on the mobile home for Petkoff's Mobile Homes. The Band won the coveted UIL Sweepstakes award. At the Greater Southwest Music Festival, both Bands received high awards in concert and sightreading and earned the title of Best 3A Band in marching. 21 MAY IIW The month of May is filled with a whirlwind of activities in anticipation of the final day. The annual awards assembly is held. Hillbilly Day, the Band and Choir hold their spring concerts, and the excitement of spring sports brings school to a close. 23 24 Seniors react to graduation with mixed emo- tions — happy because twelve years of work are over, yet sad because an era has come to an end. 25 • Senioritis • 'MUH' • Senior Portraits • Now class! • Senior Themes • Anticipation • Senior Prom • Graduation . . . The Hawks won their first district 4-AAA game since 1974 with a win against Weatherford. The Hawks opened the season with a loss to Bowie but then rattled off three straight wins against non-dis- trict foes. They opened district play with a tough loss to Mineral Wells. The Hawks closed out the season with a loss to Vernon. The success of the Hawks on the field was reflected with numerous district selections which was highlighted with Robert Hastings being named Sophomore of the Year in district 4-AAA. 6 SEASON RECORD Iowa Park — Bowie 20 12 Iowa Park — Decatur 0 12 Iowa Park — Bishop Lynch 0 35 Iowa Park — Jacksboro 6 14 Iowa Park — Mineral Wells 21 16 Iowa Park — Graham 44 14 Iowa Park — Hirschi 31 14 Iowa Park — Weatherford 7 7 Iowa Park — Burkburnett 20 0 Iowa Park — Vernon 42 92 (a.) Hawks placed in the top four at every meet except one. Hawk thinclads finished a disap- pointing fourth in District 4-AAA team standing, but qualified three individuals for the Regional Meet. Kip Fuller placed first in the shotput and discus, Dennis Dillard placed second in the high jump, and Anthony Crittenden placed second in the mile run at District. Kip and Anthony qualified for the State Track Meet with Kip placing second in the discus and Anthony placing second in the mile run. Anthony placed fifth and Kip placed seventh at the State Track Meet. Three school records were broken this year. Kip Fuller broke the shotput several times setting his final mark at the District Meet. He also broke the dis- cus record several times with his farthest throw at the Amarillo Relays. Anthony, who broke the mile run record last year, broke his own record several times climaxing it with a record mile run at the State Meet. Coach Arnold and Coach Needham worked hard with the Hawks and their efforts paid off with the qualifying of Kip Fuller and Anthony Crittenden for State. HIGHWAY IOWA PARK, TEXAS 210 How long do you think it takes to plan and build a power plant? Two years? Four years? Eight years? If you guessed eight, you're right. Eight years to locate and purchase the right site, order equipment, plan and build a lignite-fueled power plant, obtain approvals from all regulatory agencies, and then test the plant's operation carefully. It takes even longer for a nudear- fueled plant —10 to 12 years. Right now Texas Electric is having to build expen- sive new plants that generate electricity with coal and nuclear fuel. This way, in the years ahead, your generation will have the electricity it needs for a lot or important things— homemaking, jobs, education, health care and deaning up the environment. Building these plants is t something we have to do, _________IcAdj ( so that when the need is there tomorrow, the elec- tririty will be there, too.
