Our English classes are designed to correct these errors. At times seniors wonder what help research papers are and freshmen wonder what help diagrams are, but we learn and a concise theme be- comes a work of pride. To speak before a group of people is fright- ening for some of us. A half year of speech helps relax some tensions by giving us pointers on creating an interesting speech and having a relaxed delivery. Speech class is fun, except when it's our turn. Our world is a busy kind of place. We need slow moments to reignite our energy. Some find slower moments in Individualized Read- ing where reading books and then discussing them in individual conferences creates 40 minutes of untortured enjoyment. Edd Bunch Xi. But we are guilty of this same problem. Christian Faith students corrected some of their fallacies con- cerning Catholics when Father Keppler, from a Cedar Rapids Catholic school, an- swered seniors' questions about his faith and church. But Bible courses not only reduce our mis- conceptions about other faiths. We also re- ceive a better understanding of our own faith through Church History class. Graber Nancy Kinsinger, Virginia Bender, Mary Freyenberger, Ro berta Yoder, Kathy Brenneman Rosetta Unternahrer Ex-hippies compare past and present beliefs Chapels, Assemblies Chapel There is that time of the morning when those of us who haven't been up long enough to tell the time of day, are able to reactivate our- selves forthe coming onslaught. Sometimes in the midst of the more routine chapels of singing and simply listening, there comes a bright spot when no one sleeps. A group of Christian ex-hippies from California showed us a great enthusiasm for Christ which we many times are lacking-and they weren't ashamed. But even in the not-so-bright spots, we still pick up bits and pieces to make life more liveable from students, returning Pax men, Laban Peachey, alumni, and even teachers. Stuco provided us with an opportunity to learn more concerning black-white race re- lations through an assembly with Reverend Penny, an Iowa City minister. l 59 Chapel singing Reverend Penny l l Chicago gospel teams Mary Fisher, Marcia Daley, foreign exchange student YPCA We become involved through Young Peoples' Christian Association. Y officers need our pledges and ourselves to carry on the activities of out-of-state work teams, local gospel teams, Christmas Boxes, and the foreign exchange program. And so we support Becky Guengerich in Germany and Marcia Daley from jamaica. And 15 senior kids spend Thanksgiving vacation in Chicago, becoming aware of another sub- culture and expanding our world. Some of us tried to experience hunger by skipping a meal and giving that money to Biafra. And boxes of Christmas treats found their way into some less fortunate people's homes. At a Weiner roast little and big brothers and sisters became further acquainted through sticky marshmallows and a bonfire. But Friday nights are even more fun-we can do something after the game. And so Iowa City and Kalona get bombarded with pizza and hamburger orders and cue balls get dropped and bowling balls get guttered. And parents double as chefs and provide us with popcorn and pepsi as they try to ignore the water puddles and littered floors and bursting stereos. Red eyes and gaping yawns result after a sleepless night of gossip, giggles, and gadding about as we follow the slumber party tradition. And we wait for the next Friday night. 9 Christopher Robin: David Hochstetler Kanga Banquet Sophomore waiters Four long months of meetings, secrecy, paper-mache, red checked cloth, and crepe paper flowers yielded The World of Pooh, 1968 junior-Senior Banquet. On the evening of May 11, the '68 juniors introduced their senior guests to Christopher Robin's and Winnie-the-Pooh's Forest. Tigger, Piglet, Kanga and Roo, Owl, and Eeyore were there too. Sophomores dressed as little children with pinafores and suspendered short pants served the steak dinner. The evening of dignified informality and fantasy was completed with a skit of Eeyore Loses His Tail and with a more serious note by our guest speaker Harold Duerksen. But along with this final year, 50 seniors have to make decisions about the future.-Should I go to school or should I work? Which school will I fit in with best? Do I want to be with my friends or do I want to strike out on my own? Is one of our church colleges the best for me or should I utilize a state school?-We are responsible for deter- miningour own futures. They are hard decisions, but once made and finalized the whole world is for conquering.
