CHORUS OFFICERS During the program, the heartfelt ex- to God for giving us singing voices, made words more meaningful. As the last notes of The Lord Bless You and Keep You drifted out over an attentive audience, we were rewarded with the happy thought that we had had the privilege of creating a worship experience in the hearts and lives of others. As you might expect, Ioe and Tom had different outstanding characteristics. Ioe's Nas his laziness, while Tom's was his ambition . When they had attended Birdland School Torn had been the most scholarly pupil there. He had an inquisitive mind, a smiling face and a kind heart which made him the best liked boy in Birdland School. He didn't disobey the teachers--well, not very often. iltlhnn Mr. Owl. the principal, called a little wise Merle Benneman pad to support himself with Margarete oskoikoffrfvhen he heard what his punis Howafd schmck me was grotmd- ed for three days! And as though that wasn't enough, he had to take double assignments in arithmetic for those three days. It was to keep him out of mischief, Mr. Owl had said. This was worse than being grounded. How Ioe hated to study! , But though Ioe didn't like school work he was lucky that Tom did. Yes, siree! If Tom hadn't been so energetic, he wouldn't have taken Human Speech in his-junior and senior years. He had to work hard because it was the most difficult subject the school offered, but as we shall see it paid big KCon't. in next Coiumnl SPEAKINGWOF SPORTS Our P. I trust that your experience in a Christian school has challenged you not to stop short of the best that is in you. In a society which is so highly competitive, which means comparing ourselves with others, it seems expedient that we compete with ourselves and that we not be satisfied with mediocrity when we have the potential within us for greater achievement. In a world fraught with fear, suspicion, and the uncertainty of tomorrow, a life of confidence and victory through Christ can make its maximum contribution. Don't forget that you have a God to glorify and that genuine success depends upon how well you build for eternity. Rhodes As a result of serious injuries received in an automobile accident Monday evening, April 2, while returning home from a week-end chorus tour, Charlotte Rhodes, a senior, passed away a few hours later in an Iowa City hospital. Charlottes contribution to the school, her home and the church was outstanding and will be missed by many We shall not soon forget her. We shall remember her- Sincere interest in others, both old and young, Iubliant, happy nature which made us forget our troubles, Willingness to do any task, no matter how menial, True friendliness to all, which made us love and appreciate her, Enthusiasm, punctuality, and neatness in all she did, Radiant Christian testimony which rang clear and true. The challenge she leaves we shall not forget , We who remain must carry on her iaith in God And her ideals of service to her fellowmen. Death has lost, not won, The victory is Gods and ours, For more clearly we see the cross and our Christ . . . Lord, may we live more nearly like Thee.
