Principal and Business Manager Algebra Sponsors ---- S oc ial Studies Christian W orkers Student Council Senior Class Adelphian Literary B and From The Principal To the Class of '52, I extend best wishes for a successful life of unselfish service to society, as your Creator would measure success. Although an important phase of your life's preparation has been completed, your success in life will not depend on past achievement, but rather upon how well you further prepare, and wisely apply your knowledge, and shoulder responsibility as Christian men and women. A life well lived will permit one to say with the Apostle Paul, I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Yes, it is only as Christians persevere that, Mortal can put on immor- ta1ity. PAUL T. GUENGERICH, PRINCIPAL Message from the Dean The present is a challenging time to graduate. There are boundless vistas for those who have minds to perceive them. There are difficult tasks to challenge one and almost limitless opportunities for spirit- ual conquests. May you as graduates make a worth- while contribution to our generation. May you lighten some of its burdens, alleviate some of its suffering, heal some of its wounds and point to it the Great Physician. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that ye, always having all efficiency in all things, may abound to every good work. Compliments Of KEMPF GROCERY--Parnell, Iowa KATIE M. YODER, B. Spiritual Life Week God is not mocked, you can't fool God. Salvation isn't just turning over a new leafg it is putting on the new man. Remember God doesn't love anyone more than he does you. For every sowing, there will be a reaping in time or eternity. These are quotations of Brother Charles B. Hostetler, student pastor from Eastern Mennonite School, who very capably filled his place at I. M. S., as chapel speaker and student counsellor for one week. This week, December 3rd to 10th, is one to be long remembered by many students at I. M. S. To some, it was a turning point in life, a point of new ideas, the creating of a new child in God. Souls found victory, peace, and assurance. The Spirit of God, through Brother Hostetler, very forcefully stimulated an aspiration in each one to a more noble and effective life for Christ and the Church. Although the events of this week are now recorded as history, the results of the transformations which the Spirit worked shall continue with many through their lives. 30 MILLER LUMBER SUPPLY--Paint, Glass, waupaper, Building Material--Wellman, Iowa Mission Emphasis Week To broaden our concept and acquaint us with the mission endeavors put forth by the Church to stretch the boundaries of Christendom is the purpose of an annual week of Mission Emphasis. This year, we were privileged to have with us Brother Clarence Horst of Mountain Home, Arkansas. As Brother Horst pictured for us the immediate needs of the rural mission fields our interests were awakened to the possibilities of service in our homeland as well as those fields abroad. FORTH IN THY NAME, O LORD Forth in Thy name, O Lord, I go, My daily labor to pursue, Thee, only Thee, resolved to know In all I think, or speak, or do. For Thee delightfully employ, Whatever Thy bounteous grace hath given, And run my course with even joy, And closely walk with Thee to heaven. Christian Workers Band FIRST ROW: Left to Right: Paul T. We have organized the Christian Workers Band to help meet the call for service. This year we have collected clothing which was dis- tributed in a needy area, given several programs, and a number of students spent a day in Davenport and Rock Island with Brother Ralph Palmer handing out tracts. We are happy in the service of the King. ' TWIN COUNTY CO-OP DAIRIES--Iowa's Only Swiss Cheese Factory--Kalona, Iowa Spiritually Speaking No, not all of school is studyi.ng. Isaiah 30:15, and join in our daily devotions, forgetful of' the speech we must make or the test we shall take within the next hour, as Brother Guengerich or Nafziger, a guest speaker, or a fellow classman, leads our medita- tions. By cutting a regular class short, our weekly class prayer meetings may be inserted into the schedule. There your name, as well as any nationwide known cause may be brought before God by a few words of a sincere student. Many more fully consecrated students will agree that a higher regard for God and a greater realization of his unmeasurable greatness which causes an humble shrinking of a believer's ego, are a couple of the things that have been drawn from the periods spent solely for the purpose of glory to God. M. S. to live a balanced life. There is a time to work and a time to play. Our athletic activities vary considerably, even though we are getting more recreational facilities. Our sports activities consist of softball, football, basketball, volley- ball, soccer, Ping-pong, and shuffleboard. There are now five Ping-pong tables and three shuffleboard courts in the basement of the new auditorium-gymnasium. Until the gym is finished, we will continue to play basketball at Sharon and on the hard-surfaced court. When school started, the boys played softball, after which they turned to football and soccer. During the basketball seas on, class teams play each other, and varsity plays alumni. Track is the major event in the spring. As the auditorium-gymnasium progresses, our recreational pro- gram will expand. E MELLINGER LUMBER CO.--Established 1819--Phone 16--Kalona, Iowa Girls' Athletic Association President, Mary Ellen Hershbergerg Vice-President, Mary Troyerg Secretary-Treasurer, Alice Miller: Sponsor, Alice Miller. The Girls' Athletic Association has been organized in an effort to expand the recreational program for girls at the Iowa Mennonite School. During the summer months, softball is the most popular sport. Four teams were chosen which played each other during the physical education period. Those who were not on any of these teams, played volleyball. During the winter months, the girls played either basketball, Ping-pong, or shuffleboard. Each class had a basketball team and the games were played at Sharon where we had rented the gym. A girls' Ping-pong tournament was also set up. There was quite a bit of stiff competition. This is the first year that we were able to use the new gym for recreational purposes. This aided us greatly, as we were quite crowded for space in the old building. The program has improved quite a bit over last year's and we hope there will be an even better recreational program next year.
