Senior History As the Seniors of 1950 we- have not reached the top of our ladder, but we are climbing to that end. There are thirteen of us completing our work at I. M. S. Nine of us began climbing together and the rest have come from other schools. One in our number is completing his work in three years. During our first years at I. M. S. we were not willing to ad- just ourselves to high school and wanted to walk in our childish steps. Although we are not very far from them, yet we feel our accomplishrnents are bringing us closer to our goal. As Sophomores we missed those of our group who did not return and know they missed a high spot in their lives. We were not certain whether it was wise to follow the dimly marked path of the upperclassmen, but tried to follow a perfect pattern. When we were Juniors we began to realize the finer things of life. There was more to school than just receiving, we had to give. We enjoyed giving the .Tunior-Senior Banquet even though many hours of hard work were spent in preparation for it. Although we have not reached amazing heights as Seniors, yet we feel that the four years at I. M. S. have been a great help in increasing our knowledge of God and also becoming better ac- quainted with our ever changing world. As a class we know that wherever we attempt to find our place in life we need a heavenly Father to guide us every step of the way. - Dorothy Hershberger 19 Senior Opportunities America once lost some valuable and irreplacable gems, in fact they were stolen. Tirne, has caught the fugitivesg Poverty and lnopport- unity, and with the help of the law they have been duly punished. We shall never know how many potential inventors, mechanical geniuses and poets have lived their threescore and ten years, have died and have been buried with the gem of possibility locked tightly within themselves, unreleased. Surely this wouldn't be possible today-19502 We pride ourselves in our progressiveness in educational fields. No, if this felony is re-enacted in 1950 it cannot be attributed to poverty or inopportunity: it is the fault of the possessor. The world is in need of competent youth who will dedicate their gifts, and give devoted, efficient, and intelligent service in whatever work they will assume. May each I. M. S. graduate do just this. To some this opportunity will be found on the farm and in the home. To better their own community will be their task and may they do so 'by being noble, honest, and upright. The homemaker's responsibility in mak- ing hers a Christian home, can hardly be equaled. Some will perhaps find their place in the business world. Opportuni-2 ties here for Christian witness will be unlirnited. May trustworthiness and dependability characterize the class of '50 businessmen. Certainly it has been the prayer of faculty and students, that some find their opportunities in places of definite Christian service. If at home or in foreign mission service, may their lives be perfectly yielded. If a doctor or nurse may their services be loving, kind and patient. lf they are called to preach the Gospel, may it be straight from God through an untainted heart. Surely their days at I. M. S. will have been times of preparation for this great work. May the mid-century graduate of I. M. Education without religion is sharpening tools without giving direction as to their use. This is why the chapel plays such an important part in a Christian school. The daily chapel messages are brought to the students by faculty members, visiting ministers from all over the world, and by various laymen of our church. The teachings and admonitions of these speakers are a challenge and an aid to the building of a strong, Christian character in the students. The emphasis is not only placed upon telling the student how he ought to feel and act toward God and his fellow man, but upon helping him to gfeel and act as hef ought, To the Christian students, the chapel is a pei-iod of .refreshing and gives them the courage to do their very best during the rest of the day, It is evident that no student can be present in the chapel one school year with- C out having it leave some kind of an impression on his spiritual life. , A . Mary Ellen Swartzendruber, Martha Ropp. Every Friday morning instead of our regular chapel, we students have charge. We worship in praying, speaking, and singing. Sometimes the theme of our program is of a doctrinal nature, sometimes it is inspirational, but always it is valuable to those who take an active part in it. i Here we as students have opportunities to enrich our spiritual lives by partici- pating in Christian activities, Our time and opportunity is now hereg our success in later work for our Master will be influenced by how diligently we. prepare our topics. Student chapel is a blessing to all who are willing to participate. Let's not be- little its challenge. -Velma Weaver 31 , 66, . Spirtual Life Week 1 P. A. Freisen, retired India missionary. If a man tnererore purge mmsen irom these, he shall be a vessel unto honor, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work, II Timothy 2121, Spiritual Life Week is one of the high 'fights of each school year, Brother P, A, Freisen, from Greensburg, Kansas was with us' from December fifth to the ninth. The Chapel talks which were delivered by Brother Freisen were very interesting and inspir- ational. One thought which he impressed upon our minds' was, This is our time. We are stewards of our time and responsible for the way it is used, The presence of the Holy Spirit was keenly felt in these meetings. A number of stu- dents reconsecrated their lives to Christ and began anew in their Christian experience. There was also a group who consecrated their lives for service. Though they were not sure' of therplace they were to fill they nevertheless felt God wanted them to serve Him in a special way, A A Christianworkers Band was organized as an outgrowth of this week. The purpose of this band is to acquaint its members with- missions and Christian workers of the past and to open to them opportunities for service in the surrounding communities. Carolyn Slaubaugh 32 GROUP MEETINGS After hurrying from class to class we are glad for the period of rest and relaxation group meetings afford. This period is spent in discussing problems which concern each individual group. Sister Yoder has charge of the Freshmen and Sophomore girls. The Junior and Senior girls have been enjoying their meetings with Sister Schrock since Sister Detwiler left. The boy's groups are under the direction of Brother Guengerich and Brother Nafziger. -Carolyn Slaubaugh MISSION EMPHASIS WEEK During Mission Emphasis week our minds are drawn toward the mission field. Each morning, for one week, our chapel messages are brought to us by a missionary either from the foreign field or from the home land. The purpose of this week is to become better acquainted with the mission work of our church.
