We hope this book will help you recall many friendships and fond memories. 1 0 , t ,Q gl L -'1 uDedicati0n pf . With utmost sincerity, we, the seniors, would like to thank you, Dr. Reed, for all the thoughtfulness you have shown in these past three years. The many hours you have so willingly sacrificed are deeply appreciated by all of us. In gratitude, we submit to you the dedication of this annual. inf THE NURSE The world grows better year by year Because some nurse in her little sphereg Puts on her apron and grins and sings And keeps on doing the same old things. Taking the temperatures, giving the pills To remedy mankind's numberless ills. Feeding the baby, answering the bells Being polite with a heart that rebels. Longing for home, and all the while Wearing the same old professional smile. Blessing the new-born babe 's first breath, Closing the eyes that are still in death. Taking the blame for others ' mistakes. Oh, dear! What a lot of patience it takes. Going off duty at seven o'clock Tired, discouraged, ready to dropg Called back on special at seven-fifteen With woe in her heart, but it must not be seen. Morning and evening, noon and night Just doing it over and hoping it's right. When we lay down our caps and cross over the bar Oh, Lord, will you give us just one little star? To wear in our crowns with our uniforms new ln that city above, where the Head Nurse is you. Mrs. C. H. Remember the first day you brought me to school and the tears shed on departure? Then came capping, which truly signified that I was on the chosen path of becoming a nurse. Don't forget my anxiety concern- ing grades qThank goodness for C's!l. Re- member my joy about working on the floors and starting departments? How could I have conquered the many discouraging experi- ences without your encouragement and con- fidence? Because you have always accepted me as I am, my days during the past three years were inspired to do my best. How I longed for a weekend at home with you, for love was never overlooked in your welcome. Your letters proved comforting on the most depressing days. I will always love being a nurse, but this love extends from the love you have shown and given me. You have made this love possible and I am proud to be your daughter, but even more proud to have you as my parents. Love, Your daughter The ld EL 11 1 I . with the establishment of the Iowa Lutheran School of Nursing in March, 1914, dormitory facilities for student nurses became neces- sary. At first, part of the hospital was utilized. Later two private homes were purchased for this purpose, A need for a permanent nurses residence was seen in 1921. The 3245, O00 building was erected and dedicated in April, 1922. The New , .- ,..-17' A 'vis ' .GW Need for additional dormitory space as well as modern academic facilities for the student nurses was recognized in 1959. This resulted in a decision by the Board of Directors to build an addition to the 1922 nurses' residence. Work on this new addition began in November 1960. The new building, which cost 31, 100, 000, contains dormitory space with 40 double rooms, faculty offices, and a conference room. There is a lecture room and a class room, each seating 72 students, a library seating 60, and an auditorium on the ground floor with a seat- ing capacity of 250 persons. Dedication ceremonies will be held in the summer of 1962. Housemothers .3 A ' . ,. 'l 1- , . 5 Mrs .
