1987 Literary Rally IHS sent a thirty-six member team to the Southwest Louisiana District Literary Rally at McNeese on March 14, 1987. Twenty-four of them placed and fifteen were state qualifiers. At state, Joy Nelson won second place in English I and Alvin Cormier won third place in American government. Six students placed first at MSU: Dana Sharp, Ste- nography I, Greg Miller, Vo. Ag. III, Chris Evans, computer science, Debra Howell, Consumer Home- making I, Laurie Vidrine, human development and family relationships, and Kevin Natali, Vo. Ag. I. Tak- ing second were Doug Nunez, general business, Eric Alexander, free enterprise, Christi Denison, Vo. Ag. ll, Lee Ann Marcantel, Vo. Ag IV, Charles Droddy, physical science, and Marlon Marshall, world geogra- Phv. Third place winners included Alvin Cormier, gov- ernment, Camille Semien, food and nutrition, Jeff Miller, environmental science, Joy Nelson, English I and Sarah Buller, journalism. Fourth place winners: Shawn Augustine, Bookkeeping I, Michael Rogers, French I, Amy Le- ger, French II, and Greg Reed, trigonometry. Fifth place winners: Wendy Benoit, Algebra I, Shannon Savoy, civics, and Lilly Elmore, spelling. Also participating in the rally were Shannon Hill, Typewriting lg Delicia Sonnier, English Il, Melissa Lalanne, English III, Delane Co- meaux, English IV, Licia Leger, Bi- ology I, Michael LaCombe, chemis- try, Sharon Broussard, manage- ment of resources, Kristi Hartnett, American history, Charlotte Thig- pen, general history, Joany Young, Algebra Il, Laureal Louviere, ge- ometry, and Dean Peloquin, ad- vanced math. :af v- Y ' Literary Rallyf 1 7

Alisa Chappell Named First Runner-Up Shocked : Camille's Reaction Camille Semien, a senior class representa- tive, was chosen for the 1986 - 87 Annual Beauty Queen. Camille has been in the annual beauty pageant four times. She was shocked to be selected queen because I didn't expect to be in the top ten, she said. Cheri Arse- ment, another senior class representative, was selected as Miss Congeniality. Delane Co- meaux, also a senior representative, was named Miss Photogenic. First runner up was Alisa Chappell, a senior class representativeg second - Kristie Hart- nett, basketball team representativeg third - Shawn Augustine, senior class representa- tiveg fourth - Wendy Benoit, a representa- tive of the freshman class.
