Only ten of the original seafarers have survived the difficulties presented by changing environment. However, not to be discouraged by failure of its own members, the ship docked often to allow survivors of other expeditions to join their own voyage. On and on sailed the ship -- destination graduation -- and on into the sunrise, over the waves, past the lures of settling for a lesser goal, through the tempest of gram- mar school pranks and punishments. On, ever onward, with sails billowing in the breeze of encouragement, fluttering in the tranquillity of indifference or empty in the calm of discouragement. Over the eighth grade math we plowed, through the trial of Freshman initiation, past Sophomore English and geometry classes into and out of Spanish Class plays, and Junior and Senior proms. All of our time was not consumed in pursuit of our cause. This has been a hustling class, widely renowned and highly envied in the fields of athletic and scholastic achievements. In our Freshman year we scored in the Literary Rally in Home Economics and English. In the Sophomore year we placed in Home Economics and Biology. In our Junior term nineteen of twenty-five points were accounted for within our ranks with a first in Spanish, second in World History, third in both Boys and Girls Speech, fourth in Typing and Interpretive Reading. Our light has also shone forth in the field of athletic prowess. We were represented on the Junior relay team taking Parish in 1949 and the undefeated in twenty meets relay teams of 1951. Six of our class were on the 1952 track team which rook Parish and District and went to third place in the State Meet. We helped place ute 1952 baseball team to the Rice Belt Championship. Five of the Starting Six on the 1952 Rice Belt Football Champs, District and Bi-District Champions, and State Semi- finalists were members of a proud Senior Class. Herein you have read a rough sketch of the accomplishments of the 1953 Senior Class of Iowa High School. But, only a rough sketch since we have omitted basketball, track and baseball which have not occured at the time of this writing. (?tcU4 'P'uyfiAectf The higher we climb the broader the view It has been twenty years or so since the class of '53 sadly bade each other farewell. We all knew that things would never be the same. Each of us had separate paths to venture--some were to be married, others were leaving for the service of their coun- try, and still otners were going to turther their education. But many years have passed since that memorable day, and we are now again reunited in the halls of good old Iowa High. I could not help but proudly keep a program with the names of all my fellow classmates and their accomplishments. It read as follows: Ennis Buller---------J. I want you to know that I am honored to be chosen the person to select your queen. Believe me, it was a diffi- cult task since all six candidates are charming and very pretty. After some very carefully executed study, I think Miss Shirley Estes lives up to the expectations of a QUEEN. Shirley has wonderful bone construction—and I'm sure she is a very charming gal.
