Sectional Tournament 43 Rowan ........ 33 Owasa ..,..... 40 Steamboat Rock The Cadettes played a rather slow season this year, but began to click in time for the tournament play. The season began with a basketball clinic held in the high school gym. The afternoon contained the interpretation of the rules and demonstrations of offense and defense. In the evening three basketball games were played. The first game scheduled really set the girls back a step, but they began to improve as the season progressed. The Sectional Tournament was held at Dows and the Cadettes surprised everyone by winning the first two games and bring- ing the runner-up trophy back to Iowa Falls. This year the girls made 331 points to the opponents 456. Mary Long had an average of 9 points for each game. The four seniors to leave the team this year are: Ann Welden, Io Ann Bailey, Norma Kaplan, and Margery Graham. Miss Maxey coached the team. 'PEP BAND 24

Under the capable direction of Coach Howard Flower, the 1945-46 boys' basketball team came through the season winning 9 of their 18 games played. Oi the ll conferen played, the Cadets won 5 and lost 6 to give them a percentage of .455 and place them fifth in the North Central Conference. ln their l8 games the Old Gold and Black team scored 530 points to their opponents 671. Although there were only three lettermen returning from the previous year, 30 other boys reported for practice. Only four seniors are leaving the team-Francis Voigt, Allan Hurnrnel, Max Barker, and Bill Hoing. ce games For the 1945-46 season Bill Hoing was elected Captain by the team. Kenneth Nassen acted as manager. The Cadets only contestant in the section al tournament held at Hubbard was Eldora. They overcame them easily, drubbing them 40-16. ln the district tournament held at Cedar Falls, the Iowa Falls team- was defeated 29-35 by Oelwetn, after a closely fought game.
