ENPCO Left to right-Shirley Eggertp Eugene Bates: Eugene Heflinp Alan Fitz: Mr. Young, sponsor: Eliza- beth McQuade, President: Edward Berger, Mary Ann Long, Secretary-Treasurer: Bill Welchog Bruce lohnson, Vice-President. During the course of the year the Student Council has served as the legislative body of the Iowa Falls High School, as well as having provided and, sponsored many interesting assembly programs and dances. Highlights of the '45 and '46 assemblies were the Ritz Music Makers: Nutchuck, who thrilled us with his experiences in Alaska and his piano arrangements of Alaskan folk music, and Iesse Rae Taylor, the versatile quick change character portrayer. Among the social events sponsored by the Council was the Homecoming Dance, at which the Homecoming Queen was announced. The Queen, Ann Welden, was crowned in an im- pressive ceremony by Arend Tjarks, football captain of the Clarion game. The next dance was in honor of the Pin-Up-Girl, LaDonna Lettow. At Christmas the Student Council solicited funds with which they bought a beautiful Christmas tree and decorations. The l945-46 Council has met and overcome difficulties, and hopes next year's Council will enjoy serving the students as much as this one has. Jmron orwrdtms SH- GPEIGEHS sctvnesmand QPPIQHHS sir. THE TANGLED YARN 'vor Q On May 10, the senior class play, THE e 3 TANGLED YARN, was presented in the high school auditorium. Camilla, Vivian, and Cora share an apart- ment. Camilla, to increase their resources, writes an article for a contest, posing as the ideal mother . Alex Lawton informs her she has won the five thousand dollar prize. Camilla, thereupon assumes the identity of mother of the girls and Steward Brand, friend of Vivian. This pretense leads her through many twisted circumstances. All ends wellp the girls find romance plus the prize money. I Front row-left to right-Elizabeth McOuade, Iohn Combelltck, Sally Gary. EVERY FAMILY HAS ONE The junior class play, EVERY FAMILY HAS ONE, was presented twice in the high school auditorium-once as a matinee on Monday afternoon, December 3 and an evening performance on December 4. The play itself was based around the idea that the Reardon's daughter was about to make the fatal mistake of marrying the rich, but worthless playboy, when she really loved another man. Shirley Eggert, Ioan Seibold, Kath- For the first time, the Iowa Falls High School participated in public speaking events this year. Al- though they were late in starting the season, they were given a prominent place among the schools of this district in the interpretive reading, extemporaneous speaking, and debate. The interpretive reading and extemporaneous speaking were featured at the speech clinic in Algona on Ianuary 31. On February 16, the national debate question, Sha1l the United States Have Compulsory Military Trainingu? was discussed there also. Next year we hope to extend this program and participate in more contests. 16
