CLASS HISTURY Frank Snider, Ion Dunnington, Harold Hartvigsen, Robert McCollister, Dean Housel, Bruce Knowles, lack Dooley, lack Murray, Margaret Kemp, Ruth Husa, Wanda Spaan, Marilyn Sid- well, Beth Wilson, Helen Gower, Dorothy Hubbard, and Ruth Ann Opfell were chosen by the faculty as members of the senior council. Climaxing Homecoming festivities, the student body chose Marilyn Sidwell Homecoming Queen. Her attendants were Rosemary Farrell, Dorree Hauser, Margaret Kemp, Gretchen Yetter, Ieanne Murray, and Dorothy Hubbard. The music department sponsored The Red Mill by Victor Herbert with Nancy Iones, Bill Rodgers, Ruth Husa, Margaret Kemp, Beth Wilson, Ianet Ziemer, and Dean Housel taking prominent parts. I Seniors in the madrigal group were Margaret Kemp, Nancy Iones, and Bruce Knowles with Helen Gower as accompanist. , . Girl Reserve officers were Helen Gower, president: Mary Dunlap, vice-president: Wanda Spaan, secretary: Eunice Lacina, treasurer, Ruth Husa, publicity: and Beth Wilson, member- ship. A G. A. A. girls elected Ioan Baldwin, president: Marilyn Sidwell, vice-president, Dorothy Hubbard, secretary: Gretchen Yetter, treasurer: and Wanda Spaan, publicity chairman. Evan Tallman became president of Paint and Patches, Ion Dunnington, vice-president: Nancy Iones, secretary: and Mary Dunlap, program chairman. Tom Hirt and Tug Wilson were elected honorary co-captains of the football team for 1944. Hirt was on the I. D. P. A. lst team and the Des Moines Register's 2nd team. Ruben Snider made the Register's 2nd team and the I. D. P. A. 3rd team. Winning their letters were Dean Housel, Russell Lackender, Wayne Lacina, Bob Lee, Chester Miller, Bob Strub, Carl Voelckers, Tug Wilson, Bud Ruppert, Ruben Snider, and Tom Hirt. The basketball team brought home to City High its first undisputed Mississippi Valley Conference Championship in the history of our school. Seniors and letterwinners on the team were Don Sehr, Russell Lackender, Dick Kallaus, Otto Proehl, Dean Hartzler, and Bud Ruppert. Iowa City was well-represented in the Cedar Rapids Golden Gloves with Dean Housel fighting his way to the Cedar Rapids Golden Gloves 135 pound championship and Wayne Lacina making his way to the semi-finals in the 160 pound class. The Paint and Patches play Sun-Up featured several seniors-Helen Gower, Iack Dooley, Evan Tallman, Mary Dunlap, and Harold Hartvigsen. Finalists in the poetry contest were Helen Gower, Harold Hartvigsen, Iack Dooley, and Mary Dunlap. You Can't Take It With You, a hilarious comedy, was presented by the senior class featuring Helen Gower, Ruth Husa, Mary Dunlap, Ion Dunnington, Bill Rodgers, Harold Hart- vigsen, Frank Snider, Evan Tallman, Marilyn Sidwell, Dean Housel, Bob McCollister, Gretchen Yetter, Ioe Weber, Ann Wilson, and Margaret Kemp.
