President WILLIAM ORR . . . . Vice-President BARBARA HORRABIN . . Secretary-Treasurer SENIOR CLASS POEM THE WORLD OF MAN Faintly through the mist there glows a light, A beacon light beyond where lies the world. The VVorld of lVIan ! The world of intelligence! The world for which we strive! Through the soggy, sea of grey and dusk Our craft plows slowly forward, Pushed onward by the mental oar. But look, some shirk! Some hide away from work! All who journey will reach the World of Klan , But what numbers shall we see go down Plunging into the depths! Who are those who stand And fight, and win! Journey into this greater world, Establishing new frontiers, Forge onward, blazing a trail of glory! A shining highway for others to follow, A Pathway To The Stars! -LAWRENCE CONOVER

Class Histor In the fall of '40, another new bunch of stoo-dents came to City High, the likes of which had never been seen before. They were aggressive, capable, intelligent, hard- working, diligent, in fact they were pretty good. Starting out in the freshman play, The Pampered Darling, were Jean Anderson, Jim Bauer, Bill Coder, Dean Crawford, joanie Funk and Noel Thoen. As freshman representative to G. A. A., the girls chose Anna Gay. But as spring rolled around they felt it was time for a vacation, so, after a leisurely summer, Wayne Hopp and Dick Lee started off the new school year with a bang by winning their letters in football. Holding their own in debate werejim Bauer, How- ard Riley, Bob Tyndall, and Don Winslow. And warbling their way to success in HH. M. S. Pinafore, were Bob Kringel and Carl Martin. For G. A. A. sophomore representative, the female portion of the class chose Helendot Newcomer, and Anna Gay as secretary. For Girl Reserves' assistant treasurer they chose Helendot New- comer. After another three months of happy days, school was again taken up. Without a moment's hesitation, Don Winslow was elected junior class president, Wayne Hopp, vice-president, Helendot Newcomer, secretary-treasurer, and Miss Anne Wachs, class adviser. LaVerle Brack, Earl Cathcart, Wayne Hopp, Don Lay, Dick Lee, Bob Todd, Don Trumpp and Don Winslow marched right out and got themselves football letters and a few months later LaVerle Brack, Don Farnsworth, Bob Hein, George Mellicker and Don Trumpp copped basketball letters. 5 Singing again, only this time in The Gondoliersf' were Bob Kringel and Carl Martin. Doing their best to get enough money for an elegant Junior-Senior, What A Life was put on. Taking the leads were Don Lay and Anna Rose Strasburg with jim Bauer, Carol Cannon, Bonnie Lou Clappison, Bill Coder, Betty Plass, Mary Wareham, and Don Winslow in supporting roles. In G. A. A., the girls elected Anna Gay, treasurer, Betty Shonka, sports managerg Mary Wareham, junior representative, and Helendot Newcomer, publicity chairman. Walking off with honors as basketball and yolleyball champs were Anna Gay's and Betty Shonka's teams respectively. In G.
