Secretarial Tm1'n1'ng and Practice The nine-month Clerical Reception- ist Program provided secretarial training to those students without prior office training as well as to those who wished to further their skills. The ro ram was conducted P S on a lab basis with equipment simu- lating a real office. lnstructed by Mr. Robert Pearson, students spent six hours a day in the program, pro- gressing at their own rate of speed. During the first session the students studied typing, applied communica- tion, recordkeeping, business math, filing, office machines, transcrib- ing machines, clerical procedures, and personal development, The second session included eight weeks of on-the-job training. Students then returned to the classroom for the third session and furthered their skills by studying data processing and business letterwriting, Mr. Pearson shows Sandi Hildreth, Gail Erickson, jo Iverson, and Pat Miller the finer points of switchboard operation. Under the instruction of Mrs. Laura Raker and Miss Barbara Reinders, the girls in the twenty-one month course studied introduction to fashion merchandising, textiles, fashion design, and the history of fashion. They received on-the-job training which included clerical work, making dis- plays, advertising, selling, and merchandising.
