Sp!!! Baseball Season for the Pirates Coach Elmer Kamprath's freshman-dominated team won four games and lost sixteen during the 1970 Iowa Junior College Conference Baseball season. The won-loss record was the poorest Iowa Central, Eagle Grove Center, mark in the last six years. Steve Brock, Darrell Neuberger, and Dennis Stueland were the leading hitters for ICEG. Brock, a freshman from Bode, led the team in batting average f.327J, hits 1181, and runs batted in Q12J. Neuberger, freshman from Ackley, had the second best average f.27OQ, and runs batted in 1111. Named the Most Valuable Player on the 1970 Pirate squad was Dennis Stue- land, sophomore from Goldfield. His hit total of 12 and batting average of .235 was second and third best, respectively. Brock was also the top hurler for Eagle Grove. He won two games, more than any other. The Pirates could not find the victory path during the first eleven frames of the season, but improved over the last half of the season to win four of its fi- nal nine games. Coach Kamprath expects better fate in 1971, with many tal- ented freshman slated to return. Pirate's leader in hitting and pitching--Steve Brock Brock in action.
