By enrolling in the program, the students enhance their typing skills, master shorthand, and take courses, such as business English, bookkeeping, and typweriting. During part of their day these girls work at various jobs throughout the city. Here they get on-the-job training. 40

Secretaries Learn Clerical Techniques The nine-month Clerical Receptionist program provided secretarial training to those students without prior office training as well as to those who wished to further their skills. The program was conducted on a lab basis with equipment simulating a real office. Instructed by Mr. Robert Pearson, students spent six hours a day in the program, progressing at their own rate of speed. They studied machine transcription, telephone techniques, clerical record keeping, data processing and business letter writing.
