Green, Commander Battleship Division Two, has command of the only four U. S. battle- ships now in commission: MISSOURI, USS IOWA, USS WISCONSIN, and USS NEW JERSEY. As division commander he has military command and operational control of the ships in his division. His basic mission is to keep the battleships in the highest state of operational and battle readiness. To do this he and his stall' co- ordinate exercises, inspections, and all matters of training. COMIBATDIV-TWO in the performance of his duties is assisted by a staff of 6 oflicers and a flag allowance of 36 men. The flag allowance consists of many diversified rates-yeomen, quartermasters, journalists, boatswain mates, and radiomen, and is organized as the G Di- vision for administration by the flagship. DIVISION The Admiral always flys his flag on a battleship and moves from one-BB to another, depending on the schedule of his ships and the nature of their mission. For the past two months, COME.-X'lSDlV-'I'XVO has been assigned the task of planning for and carrying out Midshipman Cruise Baker to Northern Europe and Cuba. Rear Admiral Green relieved Rear Admiral H. R. Thuber, USN, on 7 November, 1952 and will complete a lOtll' of duty as COMIS.-XTDIV-'I'WO this fall. The Admiral has been a familiar face to all aboard and will be remembered as a good shipmate. During this cruise. he has visited all ships in the Task Group by highlinc: and in spite of the jolts encountered, feels the high- line is something to be preserved in the Navy.
