Training for Fitness Pays Elizabeth Hausserman, B.A. Western Michigan University Students in grades 7-10 are required to take physical education. In this class they are taught individual and team sports such as track field, soccer and softball, outdoors; gymnastics, basketball, volleyball, dance, and calisthenics, indoors. The main objectives of physical education training are: 1: developing physical fitness, 2. increasing movement skills, 3. socializing the person, 4. creating better mental and emotional health, 5. increasing knowledge and appreciation of physical activities, and 6. fostering better use of leisure time. Freshmen learn about their interests and abilities, and plan their class schedules for their future years at IHS in the required semester of Guidance. All juniors get a sound background of United States history. Seniors prepare for active citizenship through the semester course in American government. World history and world geography enlarge the horizon of many students. Seniors may take either of the semester courses in sociology or economics if they so desire. Maxwell Everest, B.S. A Librarian’s Aid Is Essential Although the library is very limited in size, the skillful assistance of Mrs. Arlene Stien, librarian, makes the best possible use of facilities to aid the students. Approximately 7,000 volumes, with many reference works and periodicals offer variety in literature as well as resource material for reports and term papers. Emergencies Are Met With Kindness Although our ailments are usually only minor, it is comforting to know that Mrs. Seidel, our school nurse, can always be found in her office ready and willing to help us.
