After a shaky start, lonia settled down and held Belding enough to enable the Bull' dogs to emerge victorious, although by a slim margin. The battling Bulldogs journeyed to St. johns the next week and combined good line play, fine passing and tricky running to hurl the S. sl. boys into the throes of defeat. Grand Haven came to Ionia next and trampled the fighting lonians. lneessant fumbling and weak defense spelled lonia's downfall. Hastings was next on lonia's honiefgame list. Both teams battled hard and clean, but lonia was just too much for the Saxons. A beautiful pass from Dick Neusf tifter to Dick Potter, netting 53 yards, turned the trick. The week after that, the Bulldogs invaded Lansing Tech and pulled a close one out of the fire to raise the seasons ante to six wins and one defeat. Letter-Winners and Yell-Inspirersu The Varsity Club got off to a rather slow start this year because of the graduation of a great number of charter members. The boys did, however, assemble for two potluck suppers, after which basketball was played. A few of the Varsity Club members journeyed to the Michigaii StatefWisconsin basketball game at East Lan' sing. In April, the Varsity Club joined forces with the G.A.A. to sponsor an allfschool party at the jefferson gymnasium. Harry Gemuend was elected president of the club, Ionia's cheerleaders, this year, made a fine showing under the able guidance of Betty Arntz, who was their captain. During the football season these loyal Bulldog' boosters followed the team to all points. However, the activities of these cheerleaders were somewhat limited by the lack of transportation to out-offtown games. However, at all times these able partisans could be seen flinging their agile bodies about in an effort to bring out the roaring yells for good old IHS. Besides Betty Arntz, other cheerleaders who gave their loyal support were: Barbara Sidlef Clyde Spencer was elected secref tary, and Max Van Vleck was chosen Treasurer. Other boys who were charter members of the Varsity Club are: Dick Neustifter, Don Wolfert, Chuck Langdon, Chris Harder, Lavern Raab, Don Kohloff, Bill Gustafson, Dick Pot' ter, and Stan Kitch. man, Joyce Schild, Pat Reynolds, Louise Bowen, Phyllis Martin, Gene Henry, and Marion Trisler.
